The home time isn't a huge deal for me since I'm single and don't have any kids. It would be nice to get home every month or two to see my parents and some friends, but that's about it. If they can get me as far as Hudson, Wisconsin that would work fine for me. That's only about 45 minutes from where my parents live.

Need to call them and ask to be sure but living in coon rapids should not be a problem as we deliver around the cities all the time and i know we use to have some drivers that lived in Minnesota also.
Zangief Thanks this. -
oh yeah on the physical once you get your card the only thing extra they are to test you for would be drug test at orientation. After that your good till dot card expires then they pay for your next physical as they want you to use there doctors.
Zangief Thanks this. -
I believe hiring area has mostly to do with getting you home. I think you'd probably
have to leave a car in black river falls and commute from there if they consider you. As far as dot physical goes they drug test you and you see a company approved doctor for your renewals. How bad a shape are you in? Im not sure if you don't think you could pass physical or just don't want to do a calastetic routine to get hired. I will say that I know of one individual that left the school when he realized how hard it was on his knees to get up and down from the trailer. Also it is my opinion that if you can't or don't want to climb over loads to strap bulkheads that your taking unnecessary risks, but drivers do, just my opinion. Good luck and let us know how your call to recruiting goes.Zangief Thanks this. -
Thanks for the information guys. I called the recruiting number and talked to a lady named Alice. She was not exactly what I would expect when thinking of a recruiter. The first question she asked was where I lived, and when I told her I've been living in Minnesota, she abruptly told me "we aren't hiring people in Minnesota" and almost hung up before I could ask her anything else.
I tried to ask her about the possibility of getting a Wisconsin address, but it seemed like she just wanted to get me off the phone. I got the distinct impression that she didn't want to waste her time talking to me.
When I pressed her as to what I could do, she said I have to be a resident in their hiring area for at least 30 days. I asked her if the hiring area included the entire State of Wisconsin, and she said, "not necessarily", and suggested that I move near where their school was located and then call her back.
This was not exactly the type of response I was expecting from someone who is supposedly in a sales position, and in a company that I've heard nothing but good things about on this site.
Sully72, to answer your questions, I would be glad to go through whatever testing is necessary to get the job. I'm just not in very good shape, and I wonder if my heart rate would be an issue in a typical test. Even that wouldn't be a problem normally, because I could just go out and excercise for a while and get in some semblance of physical condition. Where my problem comes in is with my knees. They have been preventing me from being able to go on any real long walks, so that makes it tough to get much exercise to get in better shape.
As far as getting up in the trailer and climbing over loads is concerned, that is something I should be able to do, and I would be more than willing to do whatever is necessary to get the job done. I just need to find someone who will give me the job in the first place.
Here's one more question for you guys. Was this "Alice" pretty typical of the recruiters they have at Millis, or did I just have the bad luck of connecting with an old lady who got up on the wrong side of bed this morning? Would it pay to try calling again on another day in hopes of talking to someone else? -
They all are very nice there, BUT very fast paced. Maybe you took her the wrong way because of that? Also they probably have tons of apps they are reviewing. So maybe not she was wasting her time, but maybe trying to save the time of both of you since you told her you lived in MN. Of course everybody does have a bad day now and then. Best of luck
Zangief Thanks this. -
I had the same impression of Alice and I have been dealing with her almost everyday for the past week now. I had a list of questions I wanted to ask when I called and paid my deposit for class but she always seems to try and hurry to get off the phone, but like Bear said, she is probably busy with applications.
If you want you could try calling later, I know I have talked to 3 other recruiters besides Alice and the others weren't as fast paces as she was, good luck!Zangief Thanks this. -
Do you remember the names of the other ones? Maybe I'll just call and ask specifically to talk to one of them. Which one was the best to deal with?
Don't get me wrong, I've been in sales for 20+ years, so I'm used to dealing with a lot of different personality types. I'm very patient and easy to get along with. I just want to make sure I exhaust every possibility before giving up on Millis and moving onto Roehl. -
I do not remember the names, I am pretty bad with names in general. Go figure. The only 2 I remember were Alice and Barb, I spoke with a guy and one other lady but like I said I forgot both of there names.
Zangief Thanks this. -
No problem. Thanks anyway. I'll just try calling again and see if I get anyone besides Alice. LOL
