any body happy?

While it looks like there are only negative reviews, check out the "Discuss Your Favorite Trucking Company Here" sub-forum for the "good" side of things.

 

Remember this, attitude is everything, i know alot of drivers on here complain and i guess they have every right to do so. More so, going otr with a mega-carrier seems to be a real challenge. I never worked for a mega-carrier and never will. My biggest was around 350 trucks. If you want some positive, go with local driving, maybe LTL, or try to find a private fleet to drive for. Look on the web for Transportation Topics, it's a industry mag that every year they list the top carriers in all differant catagories. I am pretty sure that they list the top private fleets, but they are really hard to get hired on with. I really do not think any one driver out hear can give you a ideal company to drive for. It's all outlook and attitude and the type of trucking that you will be happy doing. Your last line says it all, they have to make money to keep the doors open. The company's with the least amount of accidents and road repair's is going to make a better profit. who know's? you could get more ching in your pockets because of that.

 

while I have never worked for any large carriers and have mostly worked for myself--when it comes to the larger type's--as I posted earlier--I know of 5 different drivers who went through Schneider's beginer(or whatever they call it)program and all of them had good things to say about it--now while none of them currently work there--all of them did stay at least 2 years and were happy while they were there--3 of them never really wanted to be OTR and now work good local type jobs--the other 2--have since gotten married and bought a truck and do very well on a dedicated team deal--

I'm happy. Got a local dedicated with TMC. Home every night, off every weekend and holidays. Only complaint isn't with TMC, it's with the dedicated account I pull out of. They tend to close at the drop of a hat or if there is more than 2 flakes of snow on the ground.

Happiness depends on how you approach the job. I worked for a smaller company, about 700 units, didn't have any problems that are really worth mentioning. Never worked for a "Mega" carrier, but my brother does and I hear about it everyday.

 

i thought Tmc was a MEGA carrier?

 

Approaching this with a positive attitude is a must, and keep a open mind as you need to fully understand that nothing is going to be 100%. But be ready to adjust to what ever is thrown at you. Plus, there are plenty of great company's out there. I would highly suggest Watkins & Shepard. AT, and many others here work for them and seem rather happy with them.

 

Driver for 19 yrs,retired now. Biggest problem is nobody wants to drive over the road. All want to be home every night,every wkend. That is not where the money is! Trucking is being gone,not being home! This career is not for many,but most are misled by recruiters and companys. If you can't be gone,this is not the career for you or your family, bottom line!!!

 

Search Watkins Shepard....be hard pressed to find any bad said about them! And they have a terminal right there in Conover.
