I don't have a horse in the race on this, so it doesn't matter to me.

So, unless someone posts their MC number on the website for all to see, you don't have any confidence in their advice? All a MC number will give you is access to information on the carrier's insurance, length of time they have had authority and their safety information. It won't tell you anything about their business acumen. It won't tell you how well they run their business. It won't tell you where they have their equipment financed or it is owned outright. It won't tell you how well they collect the money from brokers or shippers. All it really tells you is whether they have authority that is in good standing. If you feel that you need someones MC number to accept their advice, then I am afraid that you will need to dismiss any advice that I may have to offer. I don't feel the need to post my MC number to prove that I know how to run a trucking company, collect bills, find loads or make money. I don't feel the need to prove anything to validate my advice. Perhaps you should ask to see income statements or tax returns. By the way, if you have motor carrier authority you are not an owner operator. You are a carrier. An owner operator leases his truck to a carrier.

And don't forget your name, exactly as it appears on your card, along with your billing address.

You OWN the truck... and you OPERATE the business... seems to work for me.

Back when I started we were called brokers when we owned a truck and leased to a carrier... the O/O moniker came much later.

It's public information and also one of the first things a broker wants to know. I don't think posting it on this forum has any use but I don't see how it could be harmful either. I have my authority and consider myself an owner operator and CEO as well!!!

There has been some identity theft going on with some carriers. They get a carrier's information and use it to get loads. Sometimes the load disappears. The carrier who's information was hijacked has a black mark on their reputation. Russian's on the left coast are among those who have been accused of stealing the identity of some carriers. Brokers have also been vulnerable. It is yet another reason to check anyone out before doing business with them. If the addresses don't match the authority, then don't do business with them. I don't mind giving someone who needs to know, my information. I see no need to give anyone any information that has the potential to cause me problems down the road. I don't give my mc number, federal id number or social security number to the general public. While some of that is public information, I see no need to make it easier for someone who may be up to no good to access personal information.
