Hello everyone,
Not sure if this is the place to post but I have looked around and I am hoping must eyes will come across this here.
I am presently driving for a carrier and I am seriously thinking about buying my own rig. At work I drive one out of the two, 2009 Volvo 780's. My truck seems to be ok but my buddy in the other truck is always in the shop. Same truck and mileage - cummins with 13 speed. A fellow O/O owns a new 2011 Volvo780 with the Ishift and after 6 months is still loving his truck with no headaches - 7.9 miles to the gallon. Granted its new so obviously no issues to report yet...YET that is. When talking with veteran drivers that I mentor with they all pretty much say the same, "Trucks are a personal preference", "must manufactures are going to use the same components with their Branding on the grill". Much the same underneith the hood.
I was wondering is there a independant report on truck manufactures much like Consumer Report? Would like to know if there is a truck better than most out on the road. If I buy I am interested in make money not paying a repair shop.
Any adivce would be helpful,
Thanks.

Yeah, Pardner, if you remove everything from the truck NOT manufactured by the truck manufacturer, you'll have just the carcass of the cab. So, do you like how KW builds their cabs VS Int'l for instance ? That's your decision, of course. Now, Volvo has their own engines, not sure if Volvo makes them or has a vendor. Int'l is now using their Maxxforce engines. Again, not sure if Int'l makes them. Int'l does manufacture diesel engines and has done so for decades. Each truck has their own personality, and how they're broken in says a lot in regards to future breakdowns.

I-shift is transmission by Volvo with shift unit by Wabco, the same is on ZF Freedom line/Astronic, but with differens software in two flash chips.
Really, I do not like I-shift. Too expencive parts, but drivers love it.
About late Volvos. The biggest problems are wiring and SCR. On newer trucks wires are thinner and if you ride on good roads - no problems, bad roads, snow and road solt damage wires. -
Pablo-Ua I think I am experiencing that already, SCR and wiring issues in my 2009. Noticed the Autoshift thread in a forum so will read about that as well. I'd invest in a no-name brand truck if it was reliable. I will study up more on other manufactures.
