There are a couple of state legislators that are pushing for trucks to have the same speed limits as cars.
Going to cross my fingers but not hold my breath on it though.josh.c Thanks this. -
No, I don't even hear the requests. My CB's broken at the moment, I've got to see what I can do about correcting that problem.
-
why would you be asked? that should be information that is freely given
-
Do you really want to be going 85 and have a steer tire blow? And what about fuel mileage for you o/o's?
-
To answer the poll question, if someone asks me for "a smokey report" I don't answer, because it's usually someone in a four-wheeler that's gotten too much lingo from movies or the internet. Now, if someone asks "where'd you leave them bears at?" or "what'd you leave behind you?" I'll answer every time.
-
I can tell you from experience I don't want to blow another one at 45-having said that, if you're in motion, you've still got to ride it out, no matter what speed you're going. I would a whole lot rather blow one out at 85 on a wide open straight highway than at 35 in a curve.
-
This may be a stupid question but did you have any control when you blew the steer tire? I have never had a steer tire blow but Ive always figured that with power steering a steer tire blow out wouldn't be that bad. Wrong?
-
Too many variables to actually answer that question honestly--I haven't blown a steer tire in YEARS--tires today are much better than before--having said that it CAN happen--and I doubt there is a standard scenario--had a couple of very bad one's years ago--but we were still running split rims etc...lucky no body killed and not too too much damage--
but anyway--bad things can/do happen when you blow a steer--can completely crush an aluminum wheel--doesn't roll real well when it isn't round--depending how it blows--can tear up a fiberglass hood--even with power steering it can literally rip the wheel out of your hand--thousands of possibilities--so this really is hard to answer--
As usual--pay attention--be alert--anticipate(and be ready for)the worst--and hope for the best...
Just my $.02rachi Thanks this. -
I was, but I was also pretty heavy on my drives(34-35k lbs), and I think that had a lot to do with there not being a huge momentum shift. I didn't slam on the brakes, I just kind of eased over to the shoulder and slowed down gradually, and I think that also helped keep the weight from shifting, although olhand's right, it totally flattened that wheel. There are way too many variables for me to say I'd be able to maintain control in a certain situation, but I think about "what would happen if I blew a steer right now?" all the time, and probably piss a lot of people behind me on exit ramps and curves off as a result.rachi Thanks this.
