This isn't bad advice, but don't expect to get hired if you refuse to fill out your orientation paperwork. It is what it is, like it or not most companies will not give you what you ask for. Know what you are getting into upfront and save yourself and the company the time and money wasted on going to orientation.

All I am saying is you have to look out for yourself. If you sign a one year contract in exchange for training, what if they starve you out?

How long can you live on $200 or 300/wk? If they don't have a minimum guarantee, you don't know what you will get.

If the company says you can make $30,000 your first year, that would be an average of around $600/wk.

To me that's a crap deal to sign an open ended contract like that. What if you can't make a decent check, because they don't have the freight? You want to go to another company for better pay. Now you owe them whatever you agreed to, say $4000 to 6000 for the training.

To each his own. I would want more protection on my end of the deal.

I agree though that the new driver is in no position to bargain, as they have 100's of new applicants.

I agree with what you're saying, it's just that it doesn't exist - no company, anywhere, is going to "guarantee" an employee anything - what's the motivation for the employee to bust his hump if ne KNOWS he'll be getting paid regardless?

That's why you want to avoid company sponsored training if at all possible.

I disagree, company paid training doesn't have to be a bad thing. If the situation is right for you than you should take advantage of it. There are successful drivers at all these training companies and there always will be. Find a place that fits what you are looking for and work it to your benefit.

I support company training for people new to the industry - it really is the easiest way to get in. Do your year, and then find a non-training company. If you're going with CRE, Prime or other leasing companies, just don't expect to make any money.

I think the danger is that a better opportunity could come up in less than a year (I've read about several stories like that on this forum). If you are locked in to one company you now either have to pass on the job or jump ship and then be on the hook for what seems to be inflated tuition.

While I can see the company training route being a "last resort" for some folks, you should think long and hard before doing it. It sure seems like there is much more downside than upside to it.

The point I was trying to make is read, and understand all points in any agreement you sign with any company. This is a business contract treat it as such.

All to often you will here "they made me sign so much stuff I didn't see that". Well that is on you.

And yes you should be very clear when speaking with recruiter's about what you are willing to accept and pay for anything.
