Parenting is the biggest issue with the younger generation. They let their kids get away with everything and don't have enough backbone to control their kids. I'm glad I raised my kids to behave, realize that life isn't fair, and to respect others.

Was in IHOP last night... two tables of people had little kids. I love kids, I have 4 grown children and five grandsons, all under 5. The IHOP visitos, however, deemed it ok to let their younguns do that little kid squeal, like girls do when they see a spider, or a kid gets their arm cut off with a chainsaw. And not just once... it kept on.
I finally walked over to the table and told the father, a young, yuppie kinda guy, that I knew parenting was tough, had kids and grandkids, but alsi that I respected the fellow diners and wouldn't let one of mine make that blood-curdling noise over and over. He got huffy, and I explained that I get VERY grumpy before having my IHOP sampler breakfast, and he really didn't want to be embarrassed in public, and that I didn't mind going back to prison. Principles are principles, you know.
It SORTA calmed down... -
Couldn't agree more Lilbit! I dated a young lady with 2 children a 6 year old and an 8 year old who would run and scream through the house, jump on furniture, talk back to her on a regular basis etc. My 7 year old daughter said to me after we left their house one night "Man dad those kids are crazy!" it all happened because she felt guilty for getting a divorce and splitting the family so she didn't want to in her words "Hurt the kids any more" I was just glad my daughter realized what the other were doing was not the way to carry herself.
Lilbit Thanks this. -
I agree too. Some children are raised a certain way and have no repsect for adults. In fact, they walk all over their own parents, and think they can do that with the rest of the world.
Alot of cases do stem from poor parenting practices - then there are the few with good parents who still are just AH's....Lilbit and rdking2008 Thank this. -
When my boys were younger, the youngest at the time was about 5 (this still goes today, but the youngest is now 16, then I have a 19 year-old and a 23 year-old) I could take those kids into any restaurant we wanted to go to, and they would all behave to the point where we got compliments as to how well behaved the boys were. The older two are children of divorce too, and that did not affect their behavior in public nor the way they were raised. Can the three boys get wild and crazy? Sure they do! They are boys! But they knew and still know the time and place for it.
rdking2008, U4EA and Strider Thank this. -
I rarely used time-outs and I can count on one hand how many times all three boys have gotten a swat on the butt combined. Now that they are older, they do make jokes about 'Mom's Look' though, along with the use of their full name! -
Or even worse, "Wait til your father gets home...."Lilbit and rdking2008 Thank this. -
"Wait until your father gets home" that one always seemed to get my attention quick! Then I spent the next few hours being an angel and hoping mom would forget to tell him lol
Flying Dutchman Thanks this. -
I really think this thread pertains to life in general though not just this industry. I went into manufacturing managemnet for about 10 yrs and the attitude and work ethic of a lot( I won't say all) of the younger generation we hired was completely differnt than most of those older new hires. Maybe it was because the older people had more to lose if the job didn't work out I.e. Homes, cars, etc I don't know. We did have a few younger gen people who turned out to be great employees.

What are their names?
I love ducks too.
