A better way to get confidence on what someone is posting is to look at some of their past posts. Easy to connect dots and see if someone is full of BS.
I'll save you some time - no one in their right mind would listen to me. Just ask my kids, wife, dogs, ... the list goes on and on.

Just because someone has their authority doesn't necessarily mean that they know how to run a successful business. Thousands of people with their authority go out of business every year. All it takes to get your authority is $300 and insurance. So, if you can save enough to pay the filing fee and down payment on insurance you can get your authority. -
I have known a couple of small fleets in the past that have two authority's. One they run most of their trucks under and then the other one they just had one truck under. Their thinking was in case they had a fatality accident they can move the equipment faster then applying for new. One of them had to do just that and they are still running today.

Just had my new entry audit. That is one of the items that will not just get you fined but arrested. Seemed kinda hard to me but was explained that companies that do this are the worst offenders and it is considered fraud on the federal level.
-
I agree and hope they do, but it seems some get a way with it.

As far as I know there is no law that says that someone cannot have more than one motor carrier authority. I don't see how having more than one would be considered illegal. There are major carriers who have owners that own more than one carrier.
-
You are correct, it is the act of not disclosing it that is illegal. I forget the exact term but it is something like Own or control. But you can not have "shelved" authorities. It needs to be active and all need to be discloused and linked.
I think what get's people in trouble is when they answer the DOT officer "No" when asked if you have ever operated under another authority that you owned or controled, currently own or control another authority or opporate under another authority.
It is a huge issue North of me in Chicago area. -
Me too. I was resetting my password at work with someone and she was laughing at the string of random numbers, then she finally caught it and starting laughing her head off.
-
I don't think that I have ever been asked by a DOT officer about any other authorities. Maybe it is a Chicago thing.
