    These are two entirely separate issues with two answers;
1.Anti-Idling laws(States;Cal,NY,Mass etc..not all btw) well that is a state law,and if you have a newr engine your exempt,,I.E. "CLean Air Idle Trucks"(and in Ca if im correct in remembering they changed the exemption for animals,as in they dont count.I myself never had a problem with anti idling laws,i know they seem to be a pain but with a newr truck well you wont have that problem
all our trucks are "clean air idle" trucks

2.Company Idling "Policy": Well thats simple,if you dont agree,,,QUIT,i can almost understand your husband but from a person driving a daycab(local),sorry no compassion here
Um, I don't drive a daycab, I occasionally go out, and no, this doesn't apply to me much. I do have a child with me quite a bit, but no, I do not sit still much at all these days...used to, did my OTR time is why it gets me so upset when truck drivers are treated lower than animals. I'm not looking for sympathy, I would just like to see something done about TRUCK DRIVERS BEING TREATED INHUMANELY![COLOR=[/COLOR]

2A.If you have a problem with your owners and their Personal spending habits well thats their money and Your Owners took the liability of creating a company and a job for you,buy your own truck and put someone else in it to drive and maybe you might share their opinion on idling
We make them that money...they could at least treat us with COMMON DECENCY. Yes, I can agree about unnecessary idling needing to be cut, BUT I COULD NEVER TREAT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING...LET ALONE 1 WORKING FOR ME WITH SUCH DISREGARD. It's wrong. Period.

3.OOIDA so you want OOIDA to try to make your company let you idle,,why dont you try calling them with that and share the convo with the rest of us,as for OOIDA and States laws well they have tried and all efforts are FUTILE,simple fix to a states idle laws,,dont frequent them,or pass thru them
OOIDA is the only force out there that will help a trucker. Doesn't help that there are truckers like yourself, that seem to think being treated like dog crap is acceptable...

Yes they are TERRIBLE people , abiding by the IDLING RULES that are forced on them.

And for employing people , paying their wages and on top of that taxes , permits , licenses , insurance , truck payments , repairs ECTE with the $ you help them earn based on the investment they made they do not deserve anything in return.

    ;)

If you accept being treated as you called DOG CRAP thats your problem.

I always enjoyed it when my employers had the chance to reap the benefits of their hard labour in starting / operating a business, but I guess I was thankful for having the job and was more concerned in doing it than worrying about how they spent THEIR $.

There are no rules forcing anyone to roast in a truck in 100 degree heat. All the trucks are brand new clean idle trucks...
Yeah, they do deserve something in return. Good drivers, that treat the job and equipment with respect. They get it...drivers deserve to be comfortable enough to rest in extreme weather...give and take.
This company runs drivers HARD. My husband has been with them 10 years. We are both good to the company. I never considered the owners to be TERRIBLE, a little demanding at times...but REALLY? No more AC in the summer??? Glad this didn't happen 3 years ago when I was OTR 9 months pregnant. Guess I woulda just hadda suck it up, HUH?:biggrin_25513: (oh yeah, it was August, and I ran south TX)

This is just stupid. You SERIOUSLY think it is OK to ask your drivers to sit for hours in well over 100 degree heat with no relief??? Are you for real???

Or it's it's really black and then 65. Let's face it 100 is a bit much, just idle the truck, if they threaten to fire you they fire you. Better yet get a hotel, claim it on your taxes.

Oh and you can't use the argument that if there were more good drivers this wouldn't be an issue. These guys with like 85% idle time think they are good drivers. And once people start passing judgement on who is a good driver and who isn't you can be sure it's flawed. Everyone, no matter how impartial, will suffer from a lapse of judgement from time to time. You can also never account for every situation, make the best of what you're given choose to do what you think is right and accept the consequences if your choice differs from what the company thinks is right.

A guy I worked with, strange fellow... used to talk to him every day... then kept my distance, then when I changed cell carriers and numbers, I "forgot" to text him... that said, he bragged that while working for Total, he shut his truck off once a week to check the oil. Period.

That guy was the most stereotypical, whining, bragging, full of crap dude I've ever met... I can't believe they didn't can him with that idle percentage, but they didn't. They didn't beg him to stay when he wanted to leave, though.

Factor in humidity and bugs....I was by this swamp like place north of houston...there were FOGS of mosquitos. I'm not sure of the temp, it was warm and humid, no breeze. I shut da truck off, but without the windows full down it just got sticky-hot-nasty. (yeah, I have ALWAYS shut my truck off whenever possible). Bugsbugsbugs! Uck! I had to roll 'em up and idle in order to not be eaten alive or be just sick from the hot sticky weather...
Thing of it is, drivers need to use discretion...don't idle if you don't need to, but "bosses" telling you that you don't have the intelligence to decide that for yourself, if your that stupid, you should be fired. Let them check your percentage of idle time, that's totally OK, however, just banning idling on folks that LIVE in that truck is not right. Buy a CPU if that's the case. I've worked with a CPU. Awesome. Loved it. Never idled.
