I've been off the road for 2 years and decided it was time for me to hit the big road again. My big mistake was choosing Werner as the company of choice to restart my driving career with. Because of not driving over the road for the past two years the companies I have to choose from were limited. I decided to give Werner a chance by signing up to work there Dollar General account. Big Mistake, they first told me I had to complete 140 hours of drive time before I can get behind the wheel myself. No problem, even though I have 8 years of prior over the road experience and not a scratch on my MVR. Thinking 140 hours should take about two weeks and a couple of days to complete, giving the 34 hour restart. Well a Month later and just starting my last trip in their 140 hour training, I was informed that I had to stay on the truck another 5 days because my first idiot trainer I had in this process did not complete his observation time of me. The same guy who raggedy truck broke down 3 times within a 12 day period.
If their is anyone looking to get back into trucking trust me, Werner is not the company for you. Unless you like driving a lot of miles for low pay while the trainers do their best to keep you on their trucks long as possible to make money off of you. After inquiring what was the reason for me having to do another week I was informed that it was not my concern. Wow, and all this time I thought it was being that I was the one riding all over the country with such low pay. I choose to stop this madness and had to pay for my own ticket back home after I completed the required training. I wish I could sue these clowns for expenses. Werner Sucks plain and simple. I'm still considering getting back over the road however, I just forgot how cruel these companies are that we drive for. Well all be warned, do not make the same mistake I have.
Werner worst company ever

Trainer or first-seat driver within the team? It's a red flag whenever the requirements to become a trainer is only 6 months after getting hired. So, most of the time it's like the blind leading the blind. No training syllabus, no structured training lesson plan, nothing valuable to learn, etc. What will a new driver learn from the "experienced" driver who is only ahead experience wise by six months?

I'll bite to see where this thread goes.Might have a complaint or a compliment about Werner tomorrow;my son has a meeting with Werner Safety tomorrow;doesn't know if they are going to make him train more or get the greyhound home. Tester said he braked too hard at a stop[.Can they fire you for that? They are making him wait till tomorrow to tell him (it has to be reviewed by a higher muckety muck)Talk about a sleepless night!

Generally when you quit a job getting home is on your dime. Sounds like things didn't go so hot for the OP, but I'm not sure that makes Werner the worst company ever. I mean think about that, worst ever takes a lot. This sounds unpleasant at best, I might even go with frustrating, but not worst ever.
@whosedog, I have no idea how Werner does things so my input is fairly worthless but what the heck. I know that where I'm at a hard brake event generates a phone call to the driver in question. However if you have a hard brake event during your road test it's generally frowned upon and could be a factor in deciding if you are kept on or not. I couldn't tell you if that's enough to let someone go because so far those guys have also been at least 10 over the speed limit and usually either don't stop at the stop sign, or fail to use their signal when exiting the roadway.
Anyways, good luck to both you. -
The Dollar General account pays really well.

update The head muckety muck Mark , in Ohmaha, terminated my son this AM for braking too hard? You all are warned stay away from this CO. I wish I had listened but thought it can't be all bad WRONG! It's much worse. If they can't starve you out they will manufacture a reason to send you packing. They want fresh meat in the seat; their bottom line is what can they squeeze from you while they string you along with promises of higher pay.
-
Exactly Whosedog! Like I've said I've been driving for 9 years and they wanted to string me along like a fresh daisy rookie at 400 bucks a week. I called Dixie, the head of safety, yesterday morning and she was equally as stupid as the people under her. She said she couldn't understand why I just didn't stay on the truck as a trainee for another week after what supposed to been a two week refresher extended into a month due to one of their so called expert trainer failure to complete his paperwork correctly. This company is a total jerk you around operation and a trucker revolving door. TOTALY USLESS! Sorry your son had to go through that BS.

Try CRE if you want trainer experience shock... their follow up trainers have 30-60 days experience... that's the requirement.
