Why not run on cruise and adjust the speed down as you crest the hill? That's what I did running heavies. The long slope down the Columbia basin in (I90 WA state) I'd set the cruise to 55 in 8 low and turn jakes on hi; held the truck right at 60-62. Your rig of course would have it's own spots, but you get the idea.

    Hamshoe, Please reread my post.
I believe I stated just turn your cruise off.. Like back in the day when we had no cruise...
Oh no jakes or yes even no a/c. or air ride cabs and susp.
I was just stating some people are just to lazy to shut off the cruise or tap the brake so your cruise comes on before you get nailed on the company overspeed.
I like to see some of these drivers know how to get down a long hill with out a jake.
Alot of people can do it as they were taught how to when the jake fails.
    Some might just panick..

LOl...my mentor told me.."cruise on and jakes on" problem with the jakes is they don't hold a heavy load...today I was runnin 79.880 climbing freakin rocks in west Virgina and virgina ...hmm..and SE Ohio looked down and was rolling past 72 mph I'm sure I'll get a message about that one....only had one other and i have had one hard braking event...should have went on thru the light....I basically turn the cruise and jakes off as I think it is neccesary...

Cruise in the hills is, to me, nothing but a nuisance. Jakes, yes. Cruise does not control your speed in mountains. Might as well just turn it off.

Who was your mentor? I'd like to smack him for not letting you do your own thinking with regard to speed control.

You may not get the over speed Hamdude. You might have to be there for a while for the Qcom to get it. No beep? Possibly not problem. I could be wrong!

I turned my Jake of yesterday going through some small towns. Caught my self doing 68!

First couple of years that I drove, I had no cruise or engine/exhaust brake. I had a couple of times where I felt the brakes fading and I was literally standing on the pedal as I pulled that heavy, smoking truck over and somehow got stopped.

I was in OKC yesterday and asked the safety guy how this gets tallied. He had no idea how long you have to hang at the speed to get it recorded.

I was at 68 the night before rolling off a hill on a 2 lane in Oklahoma. I forgot to turn my Jake on after coming out of a little town.
