For all of you experienced drivers with training experience, i would love to hear some of your stories regarding trainees that were a total night mare.

I had one who wouldn't listen to anything I said,so I opened the door and threw him out at 80 miles an hour. Problem solved.

Back in '88-'89 i was a second shift local driver for a company and the ONLY second shift driver. I would haul beer out of Miller Brewery, take it back to our yard for the road drivers, and other local work. Well management thought it would be a great idea to road test all the new hires on my shift and have them drive to all the businesses that i went to. Wrong!!!!! The first guy that i test could not get the truck into gear at all the red lights or stop signs, i used road tractors for my local work and we had cabover pete's, we come up to a stop sign and he once again could not get it into gear, kept on grinding away, i asked him if he knew what a clutch brake was and his reply was ya, and then started to pull on all the knobs on the dash, and trying to flip levers to use the clutch brake. I said pull the yellow and red knob out as long as your doing this and i'am driving back to our yard to get rid of him and tell safety to forget about him. The second guy i had, we had to go on a 60 mile trip and i had him start out, we left Milwaukee heading west and he falls a sleep behind the wheel on the interstate, i reach across the doghouse and grab the steering wheel and yelled at him to wake up and to pull the truck over, once again, i'm driving, get the load off, then back to the yard to get rid of him and tell safety to forget about him. The third guy i had was the last straw, I have him driving to an account and the docks were really close together but had a ton of room in front of the dropped trls. we get there and i told him to stop so i could get checked in, this was just a quick drop and hook, ya right, I told him DO NOT MOVE THE TRUCK UNTIL I GET BACK. I go in to do what i had to do and when i walked back out, this guy is backing in the trl.and is some what of a long distance from me and i start running after him to stop and all of a sudden there is all kinds of metal ,screeching, and noise that i have never heard before, well he hit the trl on the right of him with the right rear of our trl. not only did he hit it, he creased the entire left side of that trl. all 48ft of it and pushed it into another trl. to the right of it, yup shavings all over the place. Thank god it was our trl. that got nailed. Time to make some phone calls, straighten out the other dropped trls. in the docks, hook up to our load and once again i'm driving back to the yard to get rid of him. when there, ya, you got it, safety drags my ##### in to file a report i mean no problems once i explained like i did with the original phone call to them. They drag the other so called driver in and i go to the drivers room to look for any booze bottles or some sort of medication from other drivers that might have dropped them < i'am just kidding > after all of this i went to safety and said i'am done with the road testing, told them that there is not enough pills or alcohol in this world to calm my nerves, we both laughed and shortly after, i went otr for them and was a 'ol beer hauler. So there ya have it, and you all think the new drivers are bad, this was back in '88-'89

Wow RocknRoll, that's some crazy deal they put you in with those guys. I guess it's too much to expect a trainee to stay awake at the wheel, and listen to your directions! :biggrin_25523: I wonder if the trainees were "sippin" on the load of beer, behind your back? :occasion5:
