I am uncertain of the level of stress involved in the trucking industry but, I would imagine it would be a nice relief from teaching. I have never been in a situation before in which my frustration level kicks in to the point where there is no way to express it. Please fill me in because I just about lost it today with my students.

I don't find trucking too stressful at all...I only get stressed when I feel like my time is not being respected, thankfully it's not often...I found teaching much more stressful also...

I have never worked with children before that feel that cheating, dishonesty, and stealing are a norm. They refuse to accept responsibility for anything they are involved in these days. Somehow no one but the teacher is responsible. If my dad ever heard I was misbehaving I would be scared to go home. These parents don't ask their kids what were you thinking they look at the teacher and go why did you not stop this. Unbelievable...sorry I needed to vent

I am sure trucking is stressful but I honestly cannot wait to escape our current educational system.

That's okay... the parents are as bad as the children.

I got burned out of teaching fairly rapidly myself, and that was with adults. You have to have a passion for teaching in order to be successful. I feel it just doesn't work if you treat it as a "job."

I certainly agree with your comments. It's just hard when you go very much out of your way to meet their needs and they have no care in the world for their future. We talk often in class about right and wrong and not 10 minutes later are they fighting or putting each other down. My frustration level has hit an all time high and parents are useless at my school. They love to complain about everything but do NOTHINGGGG when the responsibility falls in their laps.

Maybe you'll have better luck in trucking, as it seems from your posts, teaching may not be for you. Teaching isn't for everyone, just like a pediatric oncologist who deals with children dying on a daily basis, it takes a special type of person.

How did you decide you wanted to drive a truck?

The truck just fascinated me as a child and I have been reading about it for many years now. With school and all it was not an option but now I am all schooled out and ready to give it a shot. I have worked with kids my entire adult life in recreation and teaching but the current environment and the pressure on teachers by the district is not worth the stress. I figure I can try trucking now and go back in a few years once I start a family.

Midwest winter driving that lasts 4 to 5 months can give you some stress.
