    Hey yall,

yea i know there might be thousends of this kinda post but i coulndt find them looking around and my particular question is still not asnwered.

Well, i was wondering what would be the best way to get Internet on the Road?

I´ve heard about Truckers who use an aircard and a router to connect to the internet on the road.

Its called a mobile WIFI hotspot.

I wonder what i need to do to set up a mobile WIFI hotspot?

    Any ideas?

And what is the best and easiest mobile internet provider?

    Sprint verizon.....?

I mean what do i need to be able to connect to the internet everywhere?

Well alota questions but iam really curious about that.

    Kepp on Trucking!

OK the beat is sprint Air card has been around for along time and all the bugs are worked out used it back in the late 90's and have freinds that still use it every where. it works where ever you have a cell phone tower which these days is about every where. It's just an air card plugged into your lap top with the sim card in it and away you go full time internet all the time no worries.

I'm a desk jockey computer-geek who is itchin' to get back on the road after a couple years off.

For those who have laptops in their trucks, there is a FREE download program you can use to "find" wireless internet connectivity.

Go to NetStumbler dot ORG to find/download NetStumbler software. In my IT job, I use it to go around the facilities to prove good internet connections on campus.

One caveat - it does not work on MS Windows VISTA! The web-site has a message board like this to offer support questions. But do not post a question or complaint that the free software doesn't work on Vista - it makes the board-owner grouchy!!!

It's fairly self-explanitory - it even works with GPS if you have that on your laptop. You can make maps of wifi hotspots with GPS.

Hope this helps you connect on the cheap.

Or does it also work with other providers?

No, IF you choose Sprint, the card will NOT work with other providers. I used Verizon Wireless for my AirCard and even made this site on it until I got off the road about a year ago. It worked very well.

Using Wi-Fi is VERY, VERY dangerous and I suggest no one actually use it IF you do any banking, etc., on the net. Wi-Fi will die IMHO. You have to be too close to the signal and with a Verizon Wireless card/Sprint card, you can pull on the shoulder and get on the net in MOST places now.

if you have a newer laptop your wifi card is built into the laptop. The internet card from lets say sprint will work anywere you want to connect it is safer to use a internet service through somewere like sprint, verizion rather that use the free wifi as hackers can access your computer easier with the free wifi service.

I use an air card - but why is wi-fi so much more dangerous than any other type of network?

I was acutally hoping that wi-fi would become so widespread that I could tell Verizon which slot they could stick their air card in.

As far as banks and credit cards go; if someone steals your money, that's ultimately the bank's problem - not yours.
