We are a carrier and broker. You would be suprised how many don't opt out. See the same carrier look at the load every 10-15 minutes.

I haven't hauled a TQL load in several years. I don't like the way they do business. They still call every now and then. I usually just put the rate up on what they want to pay and they go away. There rates are usually too cheap. It isn't that they don't get a good rate from the shipper, they just like to keep more than a fair share of the money.

I haul for TQL. Sometimes you get the horrible representives and lie. telling me 28,000 pounds then on pickup day they tell me 43,000 pounds... Couldn't pull it. I still haul for them. But recently its been low pay and like a $1 a mile. I wish i can find a nice paying lane or a good paying broker.

You can't make it on $1/mile for very long. From the rate I assume you are pulling a van? I would check with some smaller brokers. I have a friend who runs exclusively for CHR pulling a van. He is doing pretty well.

Not a Van, Reefer. Its not a $1 a mile, more like 1.25-1.50 but I used to get $2 and more from them. Yesterday I just sent paperwork to CHR. Hope they pay good. I got 2 reefer's, one van, and a flatbed. Right now, since money is tight, probably going to lease out the flatbed. Any reliable brokers you recommend? Don't worry, I wont steal your loads haha

you guys make me laugh when you call certain brokers cheap or crooks! they all try to make as much as possible just like every other buisness including trucking! ive hauled for both and been happy with the deal we made.if i wasnt i would just say no thanks.you MUST negotiate with all brokers. Ch has a lot of real good loads(over 3.00 per mile for some ) yes they also have some .85 cent loads but i just ignore them.I dont do anything that doesnt make me money! thats on you to do not the brokers!!!

    Are you kidding me?
I would say just about everytime I call TQL about a posted load, the person on the other end says something like "Ok, let me see if I can get this for you" and NEVER returns your phone call. One time had a broker from TQL confirm a shippment but never sent a confirmation paper for the pick-up or return my phone call after several attempts

Another thing TQL is sneaky about. Posting a shipment in a city like maybe Philadelphia, when it is really 10-30 miles away for pick-up or delivery. I don't believe any of the postings on any of the loadboards from TQL.

Each load is a negotiation. Depending on where you are running, rates can be cheap or decent. If you are not happy with the loads that you are getting from one broker then find another. I just spoke with a consignee yesterday and was told that he has been paying $3.50 to have product shipped. Some brokers are finding trucks for $2/mile or less. Perhaps it is time to start making some calls to shippers and cut the broker out. But, you still need to know your market and what you want for a rate. CH Robinson has good and poor paying freight. Some of the small brokers will pay a righer rate than some of the big brokers. I have not done business with TQL for at least a couple of years. They try to make too much off the rate and I won't haul below a certain point. Some of the bigger brokers will take a certain number or loads for an agreed rate. The actual rate the shipper pays could be $3/mile or more. One he contracts with the shipper then it is up to the broker to find trucks and get them for as low a rate as he can. If he can get a truck for $1.50/mile then he sticks the difference in his pocket.

You need to decide on what you want to haul a load. All too often carriers rely on the broker to tell them what they will haul a load for when it is actually the carrier or owner operator who decides his rate. If you need $2/mile then don't take anything less. When a broker tells me what a rate is to a certain area and it is not what I need, then I come back and tell him that I get $? to go to that area.

Most rates I see coming out of Texas are much less than $2/mile, yet shiippers are many times paying well over $3/mile to ship their products. You need to be proactive when it comes to negotiating rates. If you can't find the rate you want in a particular area, then you have the option to move your truck to a better area or take the cheap load.

If you want to lease your flatbed to another carrier, then you may take a look at CRST Malone. I think they are averaging around $2/mile to the truck.

One of the worst brokers.... get everything in writing and perhaps even record your phone conversations to catch them in the lies..But if a company is that unethical just ban them, do not give them a chance. They may do right on a few loads but they have burned so many truckers. I hope that truckers will stand up to unethical brokers and the companies who hire them and refuse to work with them.

Noone will hold a gun to your head and force you to do business with any broker. If the load is too cheap and they won't come up on the rate, then find another broker or shipper. There is nothing wrong with finding your own shippers. Brokers don't always have a lock on shipper accounts. If you use brokers then you need to understand that they provide a service to you and are entitled to make a profit off of any freight they book. They make the calls on shippers and then find trucks to haul the freight. You can cut them out and only haul your own freight, but it is very difficult to only haul your own freight. Nearly ALL the major carriers haul at least some brokered freight.
