I am scheduled to start school at Stevens in Dallas on May 2 and have a question about the bed in the sleeper. I understand that the sleeper is a little larger than average. Does this mean that the bed itself is larger or is there just more storage space?

The reason that Im asking is I will be bringing sheets/blanket to sleep on instead of a sleeping bag (I hate sleeping bags!) and was wondering what size sheets I need to buy.

Anything I should be aware of with the school/training?

When they say the sleeper is larger, they usually mean it's taller.
The sleepers allow you to stand up in them.
sheets for a standard twin will work. The beds are actually a bit longer...88" instead of 80", but you can scrunch the mattress into a fitted twin sheet.
Or you can just use flat sheets.
Just remember...everything you bring on the truck shares the bunk space with you, so don't bring too much!

Twin XL sheets seem to fit perfect.

    Since you mentioned it...

This is a packing list (for going with the trainer) that I posted in another section of this forum. What is your opinion? Is it too much or am I forgetting something?

    Thanks!

I have put together a list of things I plan on taking with me on the truck with the trainer. I am trying to keep it at a minimum. Do you see anything that could be left off or anything that needs to be added?

I dont like sleeping bags so I am planning on sheets instead. Also, I assume that I will be speaking with my trainer before we hit the road and I will ask how often he does laundry so the amount of clothes may be adjusted.

You dont really need the wash cloth and towels. Theyre provided by the Truck Stop where you shower. As for the Road Atlas, make sure its a Motor Carriers Road Atlas or it will be pretty much useless.

You probably wont have time to talk to your trainer before getting on his truck. Most are flown or bused out to meet him wherever he is.

A sleeping bag is still a necessity, even if you're putting sheets and blankies on the top bunk... while the truck is going down the road, and your trainer is driving, you will NOT be in the top bunk, you'll be in the bottom.. in the trainer's bed, so bring a sleeping bag.

Now, when the two of you are between loads and killing time, and have an opportunity to sleep, you'll sleep upstairs. Just wanted to clarify this.

The reason for the washcloth and towel is that I have heard stories of truck stop showers being not so clean. I just figured that the washcloth and towel would be much cleaner if it was mine. Do they keep this stuff pretty clean?

I wasnt aware of using the bottom bunk while the trainer was driving. Guess I'll buy both then. :occasion5:

Man I am not using something someone could have wiped their..........

    No thanks.

Upper bunk twin fitted will be fine.

Ronin's point is valid you'll still need a sleeping bag.

I would go ahead and use the truck stop supplied washcloth and towels. one less thing to figure out how to dry. A sleeping bag for now, worry about sheets and pillowcases when you have your own truck. I never did have anything other than a sleeping bag. I had two different ones that I used depending on what time of year it was.
