in theory all the classics were speced the same. Cat motor, 13 speed, 150gal tanks, vortox air cleaners, the pete style wheels, the same interiors etc. however pete being pete they did custom build some. Also they cheated and built more then 359 numbered trucks.

BTW Longhood did I ever show you this one. it was my dads 86. He says it was a classic, I saw it wasn't. I was too young to know at the time. there was a badge on the dash but there is none under the doors. My dad bought it new, custom ordered it so I know this is the way it was delivered. Also a classic shouldn't have these headlights

they did build some trucks after the classics, but they were not part of the classic run here for example is the last 359 built.

but if they were numbered (eg. 360/359) that would be awfully strange an I find that hard to beleive.
Also, your dad had s might nice ride there, but why would the classic headlights be different? those were the factory headlights at the time, and I have seen many classics with them, typically the ones claiming to be unrestored. -
I don't know, that's what the so called classic 359 "experts" have told me
if you track the classics long enough you will see the same number on multiple trucks. some say one is a fake, other say the factory doubled up on some numbers. there is pretty good documentation I've seen that two truck with the same number were delivered with those numbers. But it's been years since I've read about it.
it was a beautiful truck. the top picture shows the color better then the side shot. Marina blue. unfortunatly at 100k mi the clip that holds the lifter in the bore failed and it damaged the block. Cat didn't replace the block they repaired it. then at 300k mi it the motor blew up again, cat agreed it was because of the repair so that tiem the dropped in a whole new motor. Unfortunatly that time it blew the truck was on it's last trip to the dealer to be traded in on a new one. Motor blew 200mi out. caused us to loose a few weeks of work waiting for the repair just to trade it in on the new on -
also you notice the polish aluminum air tank on the frame in front of the drives.... All the classics should have that, not painted steel

Let me know If you ever find out more about that... i'd be very interested to learn more. I'll have to keep my eyes open for info on that. kinda knocks some of the shine off the title "numbered classic". -
over at largecarmag forums there is a thread dedicated to trackign the numbered trucks. But if you go over there those guys are competitive as hell. and they fight like old ladies. Best to just read
jr-transport and Long Hood Thank this. -
