Central Refrigerated Truck Stop

Something that is not widely known or advertised is that if you turn the truck back in and it is still under warranty, you dont have to give them the overmileage fees. It's in your lease agreement that no-one seems to read very closely.

if you are buying the truck, the mileage fees also go to the purchase price.

 

i just got into a 2011 Prostar Limited with a little over 100,000 on it with no service problems in the system. first load out I am broke down with a leak in the air dryer. Off to the dealer tomorrow for repair. There are 3 other recalls on this truck that they told me about when i called. i hope im not in there long. there is a huge freight glut right now and they are overbooked.

I came out of a W-9 with the same engine and trans. is it my imagination or do the Kenworths pull better than the internationals? Also, why do the jakes suck so bad on these and they are so good on Kenworth?

I'm in a Kenworth T2000 and love it! It never gives up on the hills and I seldom need to downshift. The bad news is that it has over 420,000 miles on it and I won't have it too much longer from what I understand.
Hope you have a quick in and out with the warranty fixes.

 

Oh, we're still around. I had to send my phone off for repairs in February, and the replacement didn't work so well, so I got out of the habit of checking the forums,

Things are well, we've been kept fairly busy with Central. I'm guessing they've decided we're not going to quit due to low milage, so they bumped it up and we're running pretty good. We'd still like to find local jobs, so that's the big plan. 4 years otr is enough.

 

This is why I would never lease a vehicle, truck or otherwise. If I'm paying for something, I want to own it.

 

If you're having trouble pulling hills, have the shop look it over for an exhaust leak. That way you'll know why you have no power, since they probably won't fix it right if they find one.

If you think and International's engine brake sucks, you should go get in a Volvo with a Volvo engine. They don't have enginer brakes, they have party favors.

 

Company drivers need to follow route, and will be charged per mile for anything over 50 miles out of route. However, according to fuel and permits, as long as you stay compliant on your fuel, they don't care how you route it, within reason.

I like to pick up in Hershey, go down to carlisle, and request fuel routing myself. It runs you across the 76 instead of backroads up to the 80.

The problem with you getting permission to go off route is you asked for it. No one's going to okay it if you ask. I go, and as long as it's not much longer, I don't bother asking. I've never been nailed for it. And, Iv'e had planners and fleet managers okay large out of routes if the reason was good enough. They canned out home time because no one can read a calendar, and we got them to route us through home when out load had 3 days extra time on it. That was a 300 mile out of route bit, but it was that, or we were going to the nearest drop yard and dropping it, because we had appointments we couldn't' reschedule.

 

Had something funny happen today. Co-driver and I were at the WVC yard after some repairs to the truck, and so we went up to get our 4 years of service gifts.

One thing about Central, they do hand out decent gifts, and they're not poorly made. First year is a lightweight jacket, second year is a Maglite, third is a Thermos, and the fourth year was great. The fourth year is...

a Gerber pocket knife.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice pocket knife. Stainless steel blade, about 3 inches long, serrated at the base. It's going to come in handy.

But does anyone else find it funny that after 4 years with Central, they're giving you a knife? It's like them going "Good job on not shanking anyone for 4 years. We've decided to reward your restraint with a weapon."

Our jacket wasn't that lighweight. And I was thinking, here is a knofe to slit you wrists for the crap we are going to put you through in the year to come.
