Reading this forum message has enlightend me guys, I was going to go to TDI in South bend, they advertised for their school, it is close to 6k tuition too, but I think I will wait to attend the local college the end of July. They want 3000.00 for a 5 week training period and I have to pay the money up front, but they say they have a 94% placement rating. I am 51 with all things perfect, driving, criminal, never a dui and no points on my record in the last 3 years. Their school leaves you with open possibilities for jobs.

$3k for five weeks? That seems a bit steep for a community college! (The one closest to where I live charges $1,500 for eight weeks - just to give you a comparison.) Do they offer active placement assistance or do they simply give you a list of carriers to contact yourself?

Anyhoo... I found this guide helpful: http://www.truckschoolsusa.com/Guide.htm

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Hi Jc
Hey that was a good report from you, I was thinking about that school as recent as today, but mt community college may take recidence. It's half the price, has free housing, and is only 45 minutes away from where I live.

I have talked to Rick Eaton down at CDI South bend and he seems on the up & up, but since I had not made a pretrip to the school, I didn't really know for sure. I had read a report that was pretty old on ripoffalert.com from another thread. That one sounded horrible, but I asked Rick about it and he said that happened a couple years ago with some a-holes they had hired for trainers.

Anyways, thanks for the heads up!:biggrin_25514::biggrin_25517:

I will let you know, that 3k actually is about the middle of what I am seeing out there. This school is in Agusta Michigan close to Battle Creek, and I am going through Lansing Community College to get there. I don't know if any other colleges in the area use the same one, but I will find out. I believe what they say, and having had my CDL before, I think I'll do ok.
Check you later the start date isn'y until July 23rd. I have to get accepted. I am going to check on Schnieder also which is in Detroit to my knowledge, I have heard good things about them.

    Keep on Truckin':biggrin_255::biggrin_2559:

im currently attending scott community college in davenport iowa. the in state tuition is 2323 out of state is 2700ish for 10 weeks (3 weeks in class, 6 weeks driving, take test, and then come back for an additional week to do "finessing" as they call it. 4 hours a day m-f), we have 6 instructors that have like 250 years combined trucking experience, the entire team is made up of retired teamsters, and theyre all real good guys.

its a bit unnerving knowing ill be sitting in the cab with a dot guy in 5 weeks, but if you dont pass with the dot when he/she comes to the school, you can use the schools trucks to test at the dmv until you pass.

this is my first week driving, and honestly, i could do this 24 hours a day if it was legal. i love it, just wish i knew someone local that could take me out and let me tool around outside of school.

Contact the State Attorney Generals Office, request a Depo and file charges of conspiricy to comitt fraud. and press office for rico act to be filed for grand larceny. then pursue punitive damage with a lawyer over the case number filed to recoop any legit proceeds. ASK for Psycological damages to be rendered in the suit.

I am not a truck driver yet, but I am researching the matter myself, so I can give you some pointers:

If I were you, I'd check for commercial driving classes at a community college or votec center in your area. Chances are that you'll get more bang for less bucks.

If you have no other option but attend a commercial truck driving school, here is a guide as to what to look for in a school: http://www.truckschoolsusa.com/Guide.htm.

In regards to company sponsored training: You'll have to sign up with the company for a certain period of time (typically 12-18 months). If you drop out of school, get fired from the job or quit, you'll have to reimburse them for training, which can be several thousand dollars.

    Hope this helps.

I didn't read through all of the posts but just a quick update; (unless it's been noted already..)

The new Schneider contract for students attending the academy stipulates that potential students must sign a four year employment contract. If for whatever reason the student cannot meet that contract, a portion of the $4500 tuition must be paid to Schneider.
