how much is fuel up your way

$4.30/Gallon avg here in Chicago. Thats pump unleaded though. Diesel is a little higher until you get out of the city.

it cost me $1.01 to operate my truck per mile. thats current fuel, maintance, and all fixed costs. I get a good fuel surcharge and I am still making good money. Rates in the flatbed side are higher then they have been in years.

Tried to figure my own numbers out on the spreadsheet, there are some differences, I.E. I am not paying 1,600 a month for my truck & Trailer. and there are a few that are less and a few that are more. Being new to the independent O/O game, is 1.038 a good industry standard starting point to look at for loads or should I refine down to the penny based on my personal settings.

you must put in your own numbers to be accurate or even close ......mileage traveled is the biggest determination (more miles less cpm on fixed costs) and of course fuel costs/mpg and miles traveled...... you will never get it exact ...but you will be i the ballpark
if you are just starting out your truck insurance would probably be much higher ....running under your own authority or leasing on makes a big difference.... if you lease on you won't pay liability or cargo .....health insurance is much cheaper if you lease on and get it thru the company.......like i said your numbers and situation will make a big difference in your fixed costs compared to the example on the chart........
when you insure your truck remember if its an older truck to carry enough collision insurance as the insurance company will total it if damage is more than 80% of the insured value......(had a friend with a 99 pete that was backed into while parked just a bumper , grill and fender damage was almost $7,000 and he had it insured for $10,000 that minor damage almost totaled it for what he had it insured for....raised it up to 30k now)Greenacres0802 Thanks this. -
Seing that I am unsure what I will be getting MPG, given some ideas when I bought it but of course they will inflate that. The truck is an 07 and yes I did cover for more than book. Health insurance is 0 since I have full coverage being retired military. Insurance was a bite in the shorts for sure. Is it safe to say that I will have to go trial by fire for a while before I get a good ballpark. I have expectations and goals set but from what I am seeing with fuel costs and being under my own authority, kinda getting a little concerned. I am good with the start up costs, but dont want to have to take too big of a loss within the first years. Any advice always appreciated.
