Well its true what they say. OTR jobs are a dime a dozen. This company is no exception. They will bring you in for 10 days of orientation/training is you are inexperienced driver or 3 days if you have 1 year otr experience. But after that good luck getting a truck unless you dont mind traveling to terminal to terminal and waiting for them to rebuild an engin and or transmission. They had me set for over 2 weeks in Helana MT with champaign wishes and caviar dreams of making money and driving a late model truck. They sent me done to Salt Lake city UT to get a truck and made me drive my own car down there. After driving for 5 hours or so and getting to there slc ut terminal, I arrived to find that my so called nice truck was nothing more than a broken down 2007 volvo with 900 thousand miles on it and pet hair and cigarrette buts and ashes every where. The smell inside was sickining. Bald drive tires and a missing head light etc etc. They gave me a load to Helana MT to get it fixed but little did I know I would be taking an involluntary vacation in cold ##### montana. After nearly 2 weeks waiting and being told they would give me an older truck with a new motor/transmission I had no choice but to drive my self back to salt lake and get my car with my own gas money and drive home 1200 miles. They would offer me small loads from Montana to Denver and back as a team driver to keep from paying break down pay. Or give you a tee check that you had no where to cash it at. They cut the balls off all the trucks. Low RPM's and locked speed at 65. That supposed to save them fuel. They frown on idling but give you apu's that are nothing more than lumps of metal. Home time forget it. one day off for every 6 days out. Remember at Watkins Shepard they need drivers but have no trucks readily available for you. If you need to start driving asap for this company. Just another company full of #####. I made 100 dollars in 2 weeks and had to use that to get home. If you dont want to train as a new driver but just want to have your own truck then watkins shepard is for you but if you so much as ding the truck you will be fired on the spot regardless of the state you in. Ask youself this: how far can you walk to get home ? Equipment is substandard. I used to drive a 98 freightliner FLD and it was in better condition than there 2007 volvo's Oh ya you need to get permission do fuel and must drive there bull ##### routing regardless if your trucker gps gives you a better way. A lot of their freight is LTL with 20+ stops on the loads in Los Angleles or Georgia. Their trucks DO NOT have a sliding fith wheel. This is quite the problem seeing how they love to haul beer out of FT collins CO or from budwiser and also flour loads. They will often have you get a load of beer with only a quarter tank of fuel. How would you like to stop for fuel every 45 minutes. Might kill your 14 hour clock nicely. Watkins and shepard should be called Walk in and Walk out.

Well that was a rather scathing review.
I'm going to make some popcorn and wait for the WS cheerleaders to show up.
This should be pretty good. -
LOL! Great review! I'm glad to see that report because I have long suspected WS as not being what many people claim they are. I'm based in Chattanooga, WS is also out of Dalton, GA not far away and I thought they would be perfect for me, desiring long haul out of the SE. I finally talked to a 'recruiter' a month or two ago and was basically told that I would only run the NE corridor out of Georgia, no SW, no long haul west. No thanks I said.
-
Trucks are tight right now at WS. They're pretty much fully staffed with drivers. One thing to keep in mind is that they're a starter company. Any driver with 8 years experience should know what that means in regards to equipment and home time.

LOL! another funny review!
-
I went through their orientation. Racism, hatred of non-Xtian religions, hatred of homosexuals. Unga Bunga... you clan bad... me clan good... you god bad, me god best. Racial jokes when no blacks were around, oh I could go on & on, and on, and on, but I'm glad I didn't go on w/ them. Racial slurs is so 40's, and NO, muslims did not take down the those 2 high ones. Oh man, welcome to nightmare land with those guys. No thanks. I will admit though, they got an awsome trainer there who gave me some very useful tips for backing with the turtles & the hares.
I interviewed one driver during orientation. He was constantly ticking his neck to the side, like he was seriously craving a hit of horse. LOL Man did that guy look messed up. He friendly and sounded intelligent, but I've never seen a driver ran in to the ground like that before. He obviously needed some major sleep, either that or really did have a bad habit. Either case, ####, he was just lounging in the terminal break room as if such was normal.
They got some crazies in charge in certain areas. I hope it's not all like that, and i'm not naming names. I'm glad he at least did not mess up my DAC, and that's a good thing one could say about them, cause I took off, and some companys resent that sort of thing. Too bad for the guys who made it. One of the biggest factors for me was the pay. What did they start you off at? $.26, $.24 ? and they want to run the noobs into the ground at dirt-wages? No thanks. -
Ok, I missed something...... they gave you a Volvo that had bald tires and a missing headlight so you could pull a load to reposition the tractor for repairs. Is that what you said?
Q: How are you going to use this tractor before repairs ? It won't pass the pre-trip so you won't leave the yard, right?
Or did I miss something else?digger_423, bulldozerbert, SHC and 1 other person Thank this. -
OMG! They make you haul beer and flour and other heavy loads with a truck that has no sliding fifth wheel? How is that even moral? Then they made you fuel every 45 minutes along the route? Jeez driver, you must of went through hell.
Am I to understand that it gets cold in Montana and those ######## sent you there?!?!? They have some nerve, we should get in touch with someone at the UN, I think your Human Rights have been seriously violated.bulldozerbert, truckerdaddy24 and Injun Thank this. -
Wow! You are really intelligent!! You can post sarcastic replies that mean absolutely nothing! You are awesome, I'm gonna call Comedy Central and tell them I found their next John Stewart!!!!

I'll swing at this!

Never heard of that experience from anyone else, but I guess it's possible...
After nearly 2 weeks waiting and being told they would give me an older truck with a new motor/transmission I had no choice but to drive my self back to salt lake and get my car with my own gas money and drive home 1200 miles.
They would give you a truck and YOU decided to not take it?...How's that their fault?...
They would offer me small loads from Montana to Denver and back as a team driver to keep from paying break down pay.
You could have said no and sat I guess...
Or give you a tee check that you had no where to cash it at.
BS on this one, nobody else there ever had this complaint...
They cut the balls off all the trucks. Low RPM's and locked speed at 65. That supposed to save them fuel.
Again, nobody actually driving for them has a complaint with this...I know I don't...
They frown on idling but give you apu's that are nothing more than lumps of metal.
I have an APU that doesn't work and they don't frown on idling, ever...Not driving for them, not sure how you could draw that opinion...
Home time forget it. one day off for every 6 days out.
Every now and then I may have got home a day or so late, but they bend over backwards to make sure I get there, I love my dispatchers!!!!!...Again, you have no experience with them to make an opinion on this...
Remember at Watkins Shepard they need drivers but have no trucks readily available for you. If you need to start driving asap for this company. Just another company full of #####.
Again, this is a minority opinion and problem that doesn't pop up too often, but it can, oh well...
I made 100 dollars in 2 weeks and had to use that to get home.
From what you said, YOU made the choice to go home...No?...And from the BS you're trying to blow here, sounds like you were overpaid and better for the company YOU decided to drive home...
If you dont want to train as a new driver but just want to have your own truck then watkins shepard is for you but if you so much as ding the truck you will be fired on the spot regardless of the state you in.
Again, more BS and I speak from experience, you aren't...
Oh ya you need to get permission do fuel and must drive there bull ##### routing regardless if your trucker gps gives you a better way.
Wrong on both points, I follow my GPS 99% of the time and you don't need to get 'permission', they give you fuel stops and if they're not convenient, a simple call can get the stop switched...You are talking out of your ahole on much of this as you have no experience with them to make these statements...Sounds like there's more to this story since you're spewing so much BS....
A lot of their freight is LTL with 20+ stops on the loads in Los Angleles or Georgia.
Wrong again...Only 2 terminals focus on LTL work and it pays better, what's your problem with that?...Oh yeah, you decided to drive home and not find out, nevermind...
Total BS, I've hauled flour from MT and many runs of beer from Ft Collins on FULL tanks never having a problem getting the weight right...
You've showed your hand proving there's more to your story as 99% of what you wrote is BS...Tell us the truth, if you have the courage...JimDriv3r, rubberducky68, Rick_C and 12 others Thank this.
