they've hired about a half dozen women in the last few months. A lumber tarp weighs nearly as much as an average woman, but flatbedding would not impossible for someone with the "work smarter, not harder" mentality.... we've got guys in their 60's+ that wouldn't weigh 150 pounds wet slinging tarps everyday.
-
Not a big deal that there are few women drivers at Maverick, we only account for 9-10% of the total drivers on the road anyway. No matter what company you go with, accept that position with the attitude you can do the job safely & professionally. All the best to you!

Leggs was fired sometime ago, shortly after getting driver of the year ironically enough. She refused a NE run and got canned. As for the other two,I may have met them but their handles dont ring a bell.
We seem to get women here off and on. Most dont seem to stay long. -
I believe one of the newer ones was canned for maiming a couple of trailers, I've not run across any of the others.
I rarely stay at the terminals and I'm somewhat antisocial -
Dolly is on here. Leggs went to pulling a box or a curtainside. Curtainside I believe.

There is another one I ran into at the pilot at hayti mo. She was a blond, tiny little thing. I was impressed with her backing skills. Blindsided in one shot no pull ups.

Believe the petite pretty blonde,if its the same one,got together with another maverick driver, they quit and went somewhere to run team. Leggs was pulling curtainside for awhile here at Maverick but requested to go back to flats. Then like I said she got fired. Too bad,I liked Leggs. She could put more than half the men at Maverick to shame pulling flats. She was one of our best. Think Maverick screwed up firing her for something trivial like refusing a NE load. Whats the point of seniority if not having the chance to say you dont want to run the crappy NE.

I ran into a driver at the madison yard one night. He had just came back to work for them. He had several awards and logged a lot of miles accident free. He got mad and quit because his girlfriend also drove for maverick and they would not let them ride with one another. Policy is spouse or kids. His point was both of them was company drivers. When one would take a vacation the other wanted to ride along. He came back; but had to start from scratch on his perfect miles record. Not sure if that was the one you are talking about.
Leggs was pulling a curtain for somebody else also. I have met dolly twice. She has been with maverick for awhile. She started out as a newbie and is a trainer now.dollylama Thanks this. -
Yes, I started with Maverick fresh out of driving school, and if it weren't for all you drivers I've met along the way, would have quit long time ago! It's hard work pulling flatbed, and now that I'm pulling more commodity freight than glass--dang, it's a stress fest trying to unload, load, tarp, & drive 400-600 miles to deliver the next day! Glass doesn't seem to be so demanding! I admire you guys for doing this week in & week out! I appreciate all the help/advice I've gotten when picking up steel/lumber loads & there's a Maverick transportation driver there, someone has always had my back when I needed it. In recent weeks, made my first pickup at Jarrett, VA, and Conshohocken (?) PA---ggggrrrr!
My student got us into the GP dock at Jarrett just fine, she had a little trouble getting out, but no damage to rubrail--lost a cone shape marker light on the side tho....She's on her own now, and I'm sure any Maverick driver who crosses paths with her will treat her the same as me....always with care & respect. Got myself in & out of Conshohocken, but once in, had to creep it over to dock closer, that gal there wants 8" or less between dock & trailer.
