That pretty much sums it up, right there. I suppose it's because Swift is the most visible company, and perhaps that's why. Go to any major truck stop at any time of day, and it's pretty much guaranteed you'll see a Swift truck there. Big kid on the block is always despised. Of course, after a while, you can laugh at the Swift jokes, as well. My personal favorite was:
Q: What do you get when three Swift trucks leave a truck stop?
A: Five empty parking spots
I used to repeat that one when I was working for Swift. Other times, the things they say are just childish, and not even worth paying any mind to. I used to hear a lot of Werner drivers ragging on Swift drivers. I can recall one instance where a Werner driver was carrying on all the way through the WV turnpike. When he pulled up next to me at the toll booth, what do I see? One of this "super tubby" lardasses who looks like it takes a crane to get them up into that cab. I really can't take insults from people like that seriously, at all.
is swift really that bad??

Love it, I made a great choice joining them. Wish my truck was faster though.
The Challenger and JustSonny Thank this. -
Swift got me some good experience which helped me achieve my goal of a good paying local job. One great thing about them is the variety of trucking jobs such as Heavy, reefer, intermodal and flatbeds. You can round out your knowledge nicely without changing companies and often times without changing your terminal. I do wish they'd offered tanker opportunities....

Don't we all Azs don't we all. LOL
AZS Thanks this. -
Every time I get aggravated with Swift I try to remind myself that 1) I made the decision to go with Swift, 2) I made the decision to attend Swift Academy, 3) I made (and continue to make) the decision to accept the next load assignment that comes along.
(Just a thought that's a little off-topic, but....
Can you imagine what it must be like to be a planner, CSR, DM, etc who's job it is to move freight at a profit and do it with mostly rookies?)Tapeworm, The Challenger and Texas-Nana Thank this. -
J,
Swift is not as bad as it used to be. Swift is what you make of it. They have treated me very well and will be going to their school for a refresher. I will then go out with a trainer for a week and do orientation. Then its with a trainer for six weeks. I remind myself that Swift is better than Werner, Covenant, and US Xpress (my own opinion). Look at those companies safe stat scores and you will see why you will not get pulled into a scale to often. Also, Swift is willing to work with me and my disability. They have not lied to me and have delivered as promised. Are they the best starting company?? In Florida they are besides conway.

Hunter, your tune will change when you are solo. Or I'll buy you a steak dinner if I'm lieing. There are times when you will be spittin' nails because of the lazy bums in various forms. When they cost me money when I have a run to make and they drop the ball? Gets me after an hour or two. -

Im still kinda new here-4 weeks as solo but so far they done me ok--running me hard--have rarely sat waiting for a load. My dm seems to be cool guy-young but he is ok. So far-i have no complaints. It was people from this forum that helped me make my choice to come here and i dont regret it at all yet. I am looking forward to having my truck fixed and hometime next week though
