    Hi,
    My husband finishes their school in Ohio today..he's been there for 3 weeks and has really enjoyed the experience. Instructor was great, only 3 guys in his class. He has 3 days orientation next week and then he comes home for a few days and then goes out with his trainer. Its at that point he starts getting paid..500 for first two weeks and it goes up after that.
    He had a room by himself at the hotel as the two other guys lived locally.
    He has met many drivers at the terminal who seem really happy with the company. So far his experience with Millis has been completely positive. Will keep you all posted, we are from New York so he will be working out of weedsport terminal.

    dasilva,
    I'm going to the Millis Training Institute in Cartersville GA. starting June 18. I don't think it as accurate to describe this as a 'cdl mill'. It is a three week school followed by driving with a trainer for some weeks, returning to your home state with your trainer to test for your cdl after which you are offered employment with Millis.

    You report to school with dot physical and cdl permit in hand. The training costs $2500. They may finance $2000 of it for you. In the past they would forgive the $2K if you stayed employed with them for a year but not any more.

    Here is some text from people who have posted answers about Millis on another forum;

    You are paying for the 3 weeks of classroom training. After the 3 weeks of classroom training you will go to a 3 day orientation, the last day of the orientation is your official hire date with the company. You will start getting paid once you are in your OTR trainers truck. The $500 a week is for a driving week, in other words 7 driving days. If your trainer goes home for 2 days after you've been in trainers truck for 5 days your week goes on hold until you go back out, so if your trainer goes home for 2 days 5 days into your pay week it will actually take 9 days to get your pay week done. You don't lose any time it just goes on hold for the trainers home time. By the way, orientation will be held at the same place you have your classroom training and you will have your hotel room through the orientation. During your classroom training they will ask you when you want to get with your trainer, you can ask to go immediately or take a couple of days off, they will get a trainer together with you as close to the time you wanted as possible, it will depend on where the trainer is at the time and what freight they can get to get him in your area.

    You will test out for the CDL while you are with your trainer. You will probably go ahead and make an appointment for it when you get out of the classroom phase only because it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to get a time slot. If your trainer doesn't think you are ready he'll have you call and reschedule it.

    Yes, the motel is paid but you need to bring money for food or snacks etc. There is a microwave and fridge in the room.

    The class is going well. We started with six students ond dropped out after the first week saying 'this isn't for me'. Another dropped out after a day and a half of backing. He just couldn't get it at all. A third couldn't make it back on Monday of the second week due to car trouble. He is an experienced driver with a cdl so they are letting him reschedule. This is just a three week course so you need to be able to pick things up fast or you will start holding up the class and you may get dropped. You don't have to be perfect but showing good progress.

    So now that there are just three students we are all getting more time behind the wheel.

    The instructor is really knowledgeable, experienced and good humored. Every driver that I have talked to is happy with Millis. If you live not too far from Cartersville there is dedicated available hauling Budweiser. Otherwise your choices are regional or otr.

    So far, so good.

    I can't answer that. Give them a call and talk to a woman named Jazz. She has all of the answers.
