How many Roehl flatbed drivers are on here? What kind of issues are you seeing? What do you wish was being done better?

Gosh, I'm pretty sure there's less than five here. Me, Bucks... and... Me, Bucks... and I don't have any issues beyond I work to hard, and it takes to long.
Oh wait.. getting crappy equipment out of Gary. Unroll a strap and it's got a deal-breaker gash 6 inches from the hook, rips in tarps, assuming whoever folded knew how.
Ratchet binders that don't ratchet.
and, of course the bungees that I break out every time some other flatbed driver asks me about the company. that's generally enough to ward them away. So, I guess that's sort of a perk.
Inconsistently sized coil racks.
Being issues 12 chain protectors then being sent to pick up 4 coils.
trying to get steel paper from a roll that just wants to cause a hernia, or a pancake-inspired death.
15th Street.
I wanna know why bungees aren't considered a securement device, when they're the only thing holding a tarp on a load.
and Curtainsides. -
You can't call what we use bungees. I want to say like 3 years ago they bought all new real bungees and within 6 months we had gone thru a supply of 200k or so. At that point they started doing inventory checks on trucks. Some guys would have 200-400 bungees. There were van drivers with 200 bungees, they must have been really worried about that door swinging shut.
Have you seen an increase in OD loads? Or is it pretty much hanging tight at the same levels? -
Well, I avoid them as much as possible. They're way too much risk, for too little reward. But, in my first 3 years, I probably did one OD load, and in this last year, I think I've done three. But I they drag me kicking and screaming into them, since that McCormick Place Clusterpunk. No one should have to file for eleven hours of detention...
But, more often than not, I get "Suprise" OD loads. "What? 115 inches is more than 102 inches? Surely not. the last guy took the same thing..."
For the most part, I get edgy when I'm told: "It's a Full Tarp Load, and make sure you take a stepdeck." That never ends well for me. -
Oversized always seemed to run poorly there. Permit delays and what not, and for some reason they like to book more of them in the winter time. As a general rule I would think that something that can only be run during daylight hours should not be booked during a time of year that only has 7 hours of daylight.
Oh well could be worse I guess. I don't really know how but I'm sure it could be. How are the runs to the west coast, few and far between still? When I left it seemed like they were getting used to WI to MI to KY back to WI. -
My issues are not really Roehl issues just OTR industry issues. Not getting paid much for loading, unloading, detention. Not getting paid at all for waiting for a load or maintenance at a terminal. There is nothing more irritating than sitting in Marshfield on a friday night not getting paid, waiting for your truck to get worked on before you can go home. Especially when you were in Gary two days ago but they wouldn't do a PM because it was not due for another 500 miles. I really hate the home made bungees too.

If you need equipment ask Jose in Gary he will try his best to get you it.

I myself am enjoying flatbed. Issues are ones that cant be fixed such as wind, rain, ice, snow, and frozen tarps. Not happy when i get a set of tarps that are full of holes but what is a person to do. I do my best and keep my chin up. Its alot better then pulling a box.
-
One of the biggest complaints I would get was that the tarps are folded wrong. I'm sure this is still going on.

What is wrong with curtainsides?
