Here it is, Monday the 25th of April and I just said my good byes too the family. I'm not going to lie it takes a strong family to accept having a trucker in the family. My uncle was a trucker for many years, I use to see how his kids were when he came home for only a couple of days. However, I must say that families spend more time when one is away for awhile. I have a eight year old son that almost brought me to tears when telling him about my long term career and what I had to do to get at the top. I know I wont be making big bucks at the start, but that ok because I know what lies ahead in this industry.
Well I'm here at the Victorville, Ca Greyhound Station awaiting my bus to Fontana, Ca. I decided to let Swift pay for my transportation instead of me driving my car. California Gas $4.25, and that's the Reg. Anyway Once I get to Claremount, Ca. I will be waiting for a shuttle to pick me up from the station and take me to Red Roof Inn. It better be clean. This is exciting I got to say, I always wanted to become an American Trucker since yay high. The people that complain about this industry, ask yourselves is this something you always wanted to do as a child? Or, are you just in it for the bucks?
Once I get to the Red Roof Inn I will update.... Thanks for your interest123456, Rattlebunny, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I am so excited for you. My boyfriend just started with Swift one week ago. I am a rider with him and I am happy to be here with him. We met at FFE where I had just started my career as a OTR truck driver. Unfortunately, due TOTALLY to not paying good enough attention, I had two minor "incidents" in parking lots right out the get go. Crushed the Christmas Lights on my refer on the corner of the right rear of a neighbor's truck while trying to nose in when I was tired and it was dark at the Travel Center in Amarillo. The second incident was at the Pilot on 70 in Denver (hate that place). It is tight and I was not paying close enough attention when I followed the truck in front of me and did a u turn as he did, but I didn't judge well enough and my right rear corner of my trailer hit the front left headlight of a parked truck. Both totally my fault. Then, yes, there is another one, in Cayce, SC while leaving the Pilot to get back onto I26, a 18 year old girl traveling too fast for the rainy conditions flew off of 26, crossed all four lanes and hit my trailer mid way while I was in the median. It was considered preventable by FFE accident review board because I could have turned "right" (away from I26) instead of crossing eight lanes of traffic and a median (turn lane). So my career is over, at least for three years. I really strayed off of the subject but my point is be careful, pay attention, get out and look, slow your roll. I love this industry, I will be back and I will be wiser when I get back on the road. Be careful. If you get trapped by a driver who can only bad mouth who he works for, politely get away. Think for yourself when it comes to people who slam everything and are negative. I promise you they will corner you anytime they can. Any company you work for is going to have it's good points and it's bad points, same as us humans. Just communicate clearly, smile, watch for those four wheelers out there because they have no idea how tough your job is. AND ENJOY YOURSELF 100%. I envy you. Take care.

I love this site.... It shows a brotherhood in this industry.
Ok, I was about to go off on Swift already. Why, well when l arrived at the Greyhound Station l had to end up taking a city bus too the hotel. I was told that a shuttle driver will pick me up but after two hours of waiting and no answer for the Fontana terminal. So tomorrow l will kindly let them know about how it felt carrying six weeks of clothes. (packing light next time). Well I am here at the Red Roof Inn, it is clean so l feel better. Just now met my roommate for the next three days, he seems pretty cool, a young guy like me wanting to start a career in trucking. Swift said they will reinburst me for paying out of pocket for my CDL, anyone know if thats true, or is it a way to lure me in....
Well gotta unpack the bus comes at six in the morning. I will update soon. I hope by posting my Orientation with experience with Swift will help another newbie such as this site helped me....
