Alright, so, I've been emailing a few companies, trying to find out who I could possibly get a job with in my current situation. I have a year experience, but unfortunately, that experience is from 06-07. From everything I've seen, I probably need a refresher. No biggie, such is life. Here is an example response to the question, " Does your company offer refresher courses for people who already hold a valid CDL with no recent experience? "

Thank you for your interest in our company. Here is a breakdown of our program:

    1. Training - The truck driving academy lasts XX weeks. During this time, you will prepare in the classroom for the permits test and on the road for your driving test. Ultimately, the goal is for you to earn your Class A CDL by the end of the XX weeks.

    2. Company Driver - Once you have completed the XX weeks with your trainer, you will upgrade and become a company driver. At this time you will be assigned your own truck.

Alright...good to know. This is a typical answer to my question. Sadly, it doesn't exactly answer anything about already having a CDL, or having previous (albeit not recent) experience. I'm glad they did take the time to e-mail me back, and at least try to help answer my question, which is more than I can say for several other companies I've asked the same question to. The problem is, it never touched on the actual question. I don't mean to sound ungrateful for anyone's time, or anything like that. But to be honest, is reading comprehension really that difficult for people in office jobs? I know, I know...recruiters lie, etc, etc. But I thought they'd at least understand what I'm trying to ask. - end rant.

With your type of situation, it may be more productive to simply call the recruiting department on the phone to get an answer. Sometimes folks have a harder time understanding the question via email than if you can verbally explain it to them............

It reads like an "auto respose" to what they consider a general question. Instead of taking the time to read your e-mail, a program probably scans the e-mails for a certain sequence of "key-words", then determines with that info a generic template response.

I've also been working the phones, so to speak...and I tend to get the same info that way, unfortunately. My initial post was just kind of one of those, "WTH? You totally missed" feelings I had to get out. But yeah, I agree. Sometimes hearing things does work better. Or, maybe they just don't want to talk about refreshers, instead referring me to "new student training" for twice the price tag.

Edit: U4 - your response came in the same time mine did. And yeah, that also makes a good bit of sense. Unfortunately it doesn't help the cause. Oh well, the hunt continues!

    U4EA Thanks this.

Comprehension and listening are skills that have sadly gone the way of common sense:biggrin_25510:

What can you expect from an e-mail. The company see's a post that has no information for first appearances. What type of company would even answer such a request. I know we wouldn't. IMHO you need to get out and find the best you can. Or you can sit back and take what comes along from a company that is going out of their way for drivers. Makes you wonder!

Well, actually, my email to the company politely introduced who I am, that I am a driver with experience, but nothing recent, and then politely inquired if they offered refresher training, as most companies require it now.

Edit: I've been emailing back and forth for 4-5 days now with this recruiter. Apparently, some recruiters prefer to use email, rather than play phone tag.

And you do you think the recruiter works for? If that's all you want then by all means go for it.
