I stated a few posts ago that I don't want to run like you all did, and I have no need to. I make plenty of money, run 10hrs a day and only work 4 days a week.
And stating that I was born in the wrong era isn't just about trucking. Life in general was a lot better back say 50's and 60's. Now all we have are gang-bangers, pregnant teens, drugs and horrible TV programs that makes us all think the pregnant teens, drugs, and bangers are OK
i would have loved to buy a used 1950 Ford for $75 and cruise in it to the local drive-in or soda shop and hang out with the other guys. Instead I have to spend $30k on the same car and hope it doesn't get stolen or stripped out cuz someone needs a fix of crystal meth -
You shut the hell up old man. For one, if you guys had stuck together BACK THEN, we wouldn't have the BS we have today. So don't even try this "good ole days' crap with me..
West coast turn arounds in 5 days. Done it..
I'm not crying about not being able to run my guts out. I'm talking about not being able to run the way that suits me, without being punished later.
Taking a two hour nap, brings my legal workday down to 12 hours. Because I did the safe thing and got off the road when I was sleepy, I got punished for the whole time I was being safe..
If that's what you guys fought for, then your fight was for nil.. The government still has the upper hand and the authority to take money from your pocket... Just because you old guys didn't fight hard enough. -
Another possibility is that, as a group we've become safer drivers in spite of the H.O.S. But you're correct, the statistics do seem to indicate there are fewer incidents. I'm not entirely convinced that the H.O.S. are the only factor(s) involved though.

How about the fact that NO ONE wants to work until they fall asleep and kills themselves or anyone else. Maybe they heard the horror stories of dipsheets from long ago running themselves, and their families into the ground because they didn't have sense enough to pull over and take a nap...
The DOT or anyone else didnt have to tell me that the freight was more important..
I have a clean CDL record. And won't work for a company that even comes close to pushing me harder than I know I can run. Not to make it sound lazy, because sometime I can run 30 hours straight, safely.. Somedays, I need a nap after only a few hours driving.
But reeguardless, if drivers were aloud to run as to what their bodies tells them and not some gooberment statistic.
Have you ever seen a statistic of drivers who fell asleep before their 11 hours was up?
And you never will. All you'll see is a reduction in hours, because their first revisal didn't work... And the next one won't work.
As I stated at first, and even the DOT will admit, that it all boils down to trust. They trust that you'll get the rest you need to drive your truck when you take your break. They TRUST you for that. But because they can't take in revenue without HOS regs., then they can't trust you to drive when your awake and sleep when your sleepy. -
I guess you could say that H.O.S. is the foundation. Many things are coming from this. First is increasing fines and forced oversite by the DOT on carriers. If you look at the cycle, you went from dispatchers not putting requests for unsafe driving practices on qualcom. Then companies started recording all calls and safety managers listening into calls. Zero tollerance policies put in place for a dispatcher asking someone to run illegal.
A driver calls and says the weather is making it unsafe and the only words out of dispaches mouth better be "find a safe place to park and shut it down."
Then you start adding in elogs. Now a dispatcher knows how many hours a driver has before sending a load.
So,no, it is not all H.O.S. but it is the basis that got the ball rolling.AfterShock Thanks this. -
You are forgetting about the black helicopters.
And HOS are in place for guys just like you. You get on here and tell everyone at times you can run 30 hours straight. BS. No, wait, COMPLETE BS.
So now YOU are the other guy I was talking about.
You know that guy that thinks he can go 30 hours without sleep and not have his motor skills or judgement impaired.BUSY Thanks this. -
seem like you all are arguing over compairing apples to oranges...
see as I remember it...you had the outlaws that ran frieght with out permits or authority..
then you have the cowboys that just run illegal...
not all outlaws are cowboys and not all cowboys are outlaws...
think about that awhile...learn the difference between the two.Hammer166 and hrdman2luv Thank this. -
That was pretty uncalled for....I can be pretty harsh at times but that one even made me blink!

F you punk. I don't need appreciation from you OR lessons. We had alot of useless jacks just like you back then; all for themselves and backstabbing every chance they got. We fought harder than you can dream of. We paid our dues. Now it's YOUR turn punk. Quit whining and blaming everybody else for your lacks. It's YOUR generation that's screwing the pooch.
Besides which you're ugly and your mother dresses you funny.
