No....Those are being driven by drivers that know how to drive. I go up the hills faster than most trucks do but after I get to the top I go the speed limit on the way down.
I get #####ed at by the morons that fly down the hills because they wanna go fast in the only place that they can pass anyone.
Lot's of times these fools will be sittin' on the shoulder half way down with the brakes smokin'. -

Your info Says "Trucking Industry" and in Dallas, TX......
The only people in Dallas TX that could possibly come up with something as stupid as this is Stevens Transport, so is this your guys new idea to save fuel? Load your trucks tail heavy to try and go faster without burning fuel or somthing equally retarded?
I could be wayyyy off but call it and educated guess....

I would hope that no one tries to make a truck behave like a pinewood derby racer, and yet, I suspect that they inadvertently do.
I'm responding to the idea that the question is easily answered by second grade physics. However, I do highly suspect that physics do play a significant role in performance.
I don't work for any trucking company and I think that loading trucks tail heavy would not only affect performance, but would also set up a dangerous scenario. So, no. You're way off, but that's ok. I appreciate your input. -
maybe its the EGR valves robbing your power pulling up a 5% grade, as for going down, no idea.

black900, I'm curious what you mean by 'that know how to drive'. I drive a neutered truck so your advise might not help me much but I'm always glad for a tip or two. I'm assuming you mean downshifting earlier when pulling a grade to keep the rpm's on the high side or at least in the optimal pulling range for the truck, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure he mean, idiots that let the weight push them to 65mph+ down a hill when the speed limit is 65mph just because they cant normally go that fast.
All that does is cause them to pass trucks like BW900 and Myself and then as soon as they lose there momentom we have to pass them AGAIN for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time lol

Ah, you are quite likely right. I reread his post and the first time I thought it was said in reference to going up the hill faster but that's prob because he doesn't have a governer. Show off!
I started off as one of those guys but quickly realized it didn't save a bit of time and is generally annoying to those who have to keep passing you. It can create quite a traffic jam too. -
Yeah...he got it right.
I ran across I-40 today in California and had a KLLM and a FedEx ground I/C and a PTL truck playing the drag-n-fly game with me and another flatbed that was running with me....I was going 62 on the C/C and I would go up the hills at 62 and then down the hills at 62 and the idiots would go up the hills at 35 and down the hills at 75 and then get to flat ground and in a couple of minutes I would be passing them again.
