Well things are changing, due to a personal commitment I made to my family to be home on May 6 I am switching to reefer. U2, IP or Sazook anyone you guys know that is a non-smoker and likes to kick miles so I can finish ASAP. I am on a load now that delivers to Long Beach, CA tomorrow morning. Fleet Manager said we should be back to Springfield ASAP.

CAGEtrucker - I enjoyed reading about your experience. I will be starting with Prime in June. I hope all goes well just like they did for you. Are you going to stick be a company drive or are you going to lease?

Well we picked up in Kansas City, MO and just delivered to Long Beach, CA. Now we have a 3 stop load from where we delivered to going to Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO and Fort Collins, CO. Conduit another strap and tarp load, hope it is compact so we can 1 tarp it. Moving right along, I am hoping to get back to Springfield ASAP so I can get on the reefer trainers truck for a few days and go solo so I can keep commitments I made, just some miscommunication with recruiter.

I am with a lease guy now on flatbed training. I plan to lease either way. Most drivers I talk to are making some good money leasing, better then company drivers making by the mile. An example we just had a load that paid $2600 for an 1180 mile run now a company guy on flatbed would make .38 cpm so 1180 x .38= $448.40. Now realize fuel needs to be subtracted so just round off which is better $2000 for 1 load or $448? we just got this load out of CA also pays $2250 for 1200 miles so $2.00 per mile or .38 cpm. Several different ways to look at it, fixed expenses and such but lease seems to be better way to go for me.

Any open reefer trainers out there? I need one for 6 days lets run some miles. Prefer non-smoker due to my cpap machine or at least no smoking in truck while I am on it and MUST BE CLEAN. Be safe all

Wow - I'm conteplating leasing now. I'm sure I will have my mind made up by the time I get there June 26th. Thanks for info!

CAGE,
you took the fuel costs out, but what about the other costs for the week?? The lease payment, taxes, that fund for tires and repairs, etc? How much of the $2600 is left once you take ALL the weekly expenses out??
That is my fear with the lease, that there will not be enough left over to take care of the home expenses. -
Do you have any experience in trucking? If that answer is "no," then do yourself a favor - go on the company side for a year or two and learn about the business first. Most of the "bad trucking company" posts about Prime are from folks who don't have a clue about how to drive a truck, let alone run a trucking business aka leasing a truck - and failed at it.
You need to be able to operate the truck efficiently. Get some business management education - there are websites dedicated to trucking business. And see if the numbers match up with what you need for a salary - oh yeah, that lease settlement check is not a paycheck... its cashflow into your business that you pay everything out of, including yourself. -
If you manage to keep 30 cents out of every dollar a load grosses - you're doing way good. Most folks can't manage that because of a severe lead foot, advances, shiny useless metal, fancy gizmo's, etc. BTW... that 30 cents is pre-tax dollars.

Another question on this lease, does Prime pay the income taxes or is that your responsibility to file quarterly?
