Just subtract the hours from the total..

if at midnight you have 50 hours of on duty time and 8 days ago you had 10 hours on duty, after midnight you will have 40 hours.

Yesterdays total + today's hours - 8 days ago hours.

Or get drivers daily log.. You could work for a company with eLogs too..

 

REALLY hard to explain it over the internet... my advice is to buy an experienced driver coffee, a coke, or lunch and ask them to sit down with you and go over it all to make sure you're doing the math right.

I did that when I first started, and I've helped several new folks the same way.

 

The "program" you need is called a calculator. As for figuring the rest out, I'd suggest you do this with the utmost urgency - on top of steep fines, you now have to deal with CSA2010 if you get it wrong.

 

As well as violation sanctions from their company for 11/14/70 violations.

Don't they teach this stuff in trucking schools? To the OP it says you are a student, why not ask your instructor or trainer instead of posting on a message board?

 

Almost NOTHING in trucking schools, except a basic touch on 11/14/70.. my wife went through school in early 2008, and she got about 15 minutes. Trucking schools are about getting you to pass your CDL road test and blowing smoke up your arse about how much you'll make as a driver...

 

At some point, though, they're going to be on the road with a trainer/mentor/six month wonder/whatever you wish to call them. Surely that would constitute a bit of follow-up log instruction?
