I have a '97 Pete 379 that has a battery draw. I have checked the grounds, connections, even pulled the stereo, as well as all the fuses out of the fuse box. Still there is a draw. We are fairly new to this truck, so I am still finding out new things. It looks as if it was once a sleeper which has been converted to a day cab. Thanks for the help.

Does it have a qualcom? Sometimes they will not go to sleep and run a battery down.
-
How are you testing for the draw?
-
No it doesnt have a qualcom. And we noticed that after the batteries were recharged and placed back into the battery box, the negative terminal sparked. I checked to see if anything was left on, and everything was off. I put my test light inline between the neg. post and neg. cable and it lit up. Dimly, but it was on.

Not really a valid test. Although the test light should not have lit up. The ecms and radio all take power all the time. You need to check with a dvom that can do amps anything over .5 amps is trouble. Make sure all lights are off and doors are closed or you will be changing the breaker in your meter. If your drawing over .5 amps go to the fuse panel and pull a 1 fuse at a time till you lose your big draw. That will tell you what circut to look at. Most likely source will be the radio I have also seen cell phone chargers, even with nothing attached to them, cause a draw.

tested system with a D.C. amp meter. when I connected battery terminals, I saw a reading of 26 amps. I removed the terminals off of the alternator, and still no change.
-
what DC meter? clamp meter? I use clamp meter, but every time before use reset current reading.
26 A is too much, it is more then 300 wt, it is more then headlamp power! so something must be really hot.
Pull out fuses one by one till you find a problem.
Try to measure current in different points, in alternator area, near starter -
I have all the fuses removed. Could the starter be causing the issue ? I'm running out of ideas, but I'm still trying to see if there is two wires somewhere that has rubbed through.
-
It is a fluke clamp style meter..

You could have a dead cell in one of your batterys and that sucking down the others.
How old are they??Diesel Dave Thanks this.
