We do hair tests at my company and have for awhile now.

I can tell you that any hair test will go back a minimum of 90 days, even if you just got a hair cut! They can go back much further than that but it is a minimum of 90 days.

There is some unfairness to the hair tests however. Obviously the longer your hair is the longer they can go back so a woman who typically has long hair will have more of a history than a man with short hair.

The other negative is that for some reason...maybe DNA or whatever but black peoples hair tend to hold certain chemicals longer so their tests can also show a much longer history period than whites.

This is why the DOT will probably never regulate hair testing. Thus far only the FDA has regulated hair tests. I think they are a valuable tool and I am glad that we use them. It is surprising how every week we always see one or two applicants pop positive for drugs.

In response to urine tests...they have their place but they only go back 24-48hrs tops and unless the test is monitored it is so easy to pass.

If you try and cut your hair or "wax" you tend to become a chia pet for that company...we give you 60 days to grow some hair and return to give your sample so either way you have to give it up to stay employed. If the root is still in the body then the hair folicle will have residual chemical compounds even after 60 days...good luck!

The best advice is simply don't do them, recreationally or otherwise. There is no place for them in our industry...period!

I also love those excuses were a person states they were just sitting next to someone smoking pot...please...unless your locked in a phone booth size room with that person for multiple days there is no way! But I do love to hear the excuses.

i agree with the hair testing. it should be across the board industry wide. they claim you can't defeat a whiz quiz.. b.s you can.
a recreational user has no problem passing one. do we still want them behind the wheel monday morning after they were out saturday night on a bender?
ok hair test goes back 90 days. little harder for some to say "no" and they get weeded out of the game entirely.
shoot i say take it back one or two years, then a company would know right off if this person might have an issue that should and could be dealt with.
