If we can't shut down on the roads, just shut down in the nearest scalehouse. Pack them all full, both ramps too. Then we're out of the way and in the way at the same time.

What precisely is Washington or anyone else supposed to do about fuel prices?

Surely no one expects them to lower prices with legislation! I bet the same myrmidon's that want this are the ones who want percentages set on brokers. Tell me what will you do when they set freight rates?

Good business men and women will be to busy hauling profitable freight to worry with some insipid stoppage about a commodity openly traded on a free market.

Exactly Tazz. All that can be done is either drop taxes (Yea that will happen, and with no road money coming in, next year everyone will be driving on roads no better than gravel roads.) or release oil for the reserves to drop prices. If one believes wikipedia it has 160 day supply (can only pull 4.4 million barrels out of it a day) So after the 5 months is up the prices go back up and we have NO reserve at all. To me that's not a good compromise.

Also remember folks, while prices are getting higher, US is still cheap compared to the rest of the world. You can get current retail prices in the EU at http://www.energy.eu/ and converting to dollars and gallons it ranges from $6.66 to $8.48 for fuel.

And they pay the same price we do for it before taxes so there is no real difference.

Exxon had $17 billion in profits last year. It's not all taxes. The USA has been spoiled with low fuel prices for years. When they get to $8 a gallon, you'll think $4 was good then.

So why is it that everyone assumes that the only oil left, and the only option left, is in these reserves? There's oil all over outside the reserves that can't be gotten at because certain parties interfere with the operations. What about that?

Well I can tell you that ppl all over Europe went on strike, and it worked. But that is Europe, ppl get together easier I guess. And maybe is much easier to organize a strike.
Here in Chicago we try not to put fuel for a day. Cars, trucks every one..., I don't see any result!
In order for the government to even consider lowering the fuel price it has to be something major !
