This mentality of looking over at what the next guy is doing and making pointless comparisons needs to end. Okay, so the price of fuel is higher outside of the United States. If you are satisfied with what the Europeons are doing, and how much they are paying for fuel, then please take your butt to Europe. This is America, and Americans should be primarily concerned with American issues. If you think that America has been "spoiled" with low fuel prices for years, then please get the hell out of this country and purchase your precious expensive fuel from another country. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in America, do what the Americans do and try not to worry about what the other country is doing.
As far as the strike issue: I don't think that protesting various laws, regulations, and the rising/skyrocketing price of fuel for an hour is going to solve anything, or get any point across to the government. I'm not saying that a strike is completely impossible, but an hour is not even going to put a dent in anything. It just sounds like a bunch of happy Mickey Mouse ########. Let's come back to reality please and actually think of what the most effective method of being heard will be the most effective.

We can solve all these problems by just paying these trucking companies out of our pocket for the privilege of working for them!
-
Ah yes the blessed collectives of Europa. What did their "successful strike" gain?
Yes yes they got in the paper. What benefit did they gain? -
The point is to get the EPA to ease up on regulations against finishing the pipeline from Canada, and for drilling permits, and refinery expansion. If the commodity traders get the idea that there will be either increased supply, or decreased demand, they will not be willing to spend so much for oil futures contracts. What we are trying to accomplish, is to have the national news media to run the story. Get the national news talking about truckers getting together, and the traders get scared.
-
You can curtail oil future traders profits now. In fact you can curb Exxon's profits now.
Stop buying their product.
Now while I agree there should be no "future's trading" there is no rational way to stop it besides refusing to deal with those involved. And since a majority of people are relying on that ponzi scheme to support their later years they plan to be lazy in good luck getting an irrational law to prevent it. As long as people want to make money with money and not a product we will have trading where no one actually trades a #### thing besides money.
But I digress. So the point is to let them know trucker's do not like paying for fuel. Yes yes I know you said stand together, but for what? High fuel prices yes? Every other story from the armageddon networks is how people do not like paying for fuel. In fact the Obamanation just created yet another investigative panel to determine why we buy fuel.
Pretty sure the "public" and the "traders" are well aware no one likes paying more for fuel, and also no they will never stop buying it. As stated they could control it in a heartbeat. They choose not to.
And instead of some pipeline allow alcohol production in the US. We in the south have known the benefits of what people call ethanol (corn squeezing's) since prohibition. I can make any fuel I need but that is illegal for no other reason than a bunch of bible thumping do gooders want to keep me from it because it could be imbibed. And yes diesel replacements could be produced similarly from soy, rice, and sugar beets. Nah to easy huh. -
As a company driver who cares little to none of the price of fuel can you give me one good reason why I would or should stop my truck for 1 minute let alone 1 hour?
I'd stop for a day or may be a week if you were going to say something like this
-
How about the price of food, gas for your personal car, your job. If the oil prices keep rising, the cost of everything goes up because the cost to ship it goes up. Don't you remember 2008? Freight droped WAY off. Companies went out of business and a lot of drivers lost their jobs. Companies just started hiring again at the end of last year. That is not going to continue if the cost of fuel keeps going up.
-
What bruce said and your company is already running on a tight fine line. Each additional expenses has no choices but to be taken from you. Many drivers have taken pay cuts in the recent years. My last company already dropped starting pay by .02 and cut the dispatcher force in half. Each dispatcher handles about 105 drivers each now. Have you ever tried to talk with a dispather that was that busy? It takes an hour sometimes to get a comcheck.

Oh for...............
Of all the horse dropping's
Be forced to join the collectivist's
by government weapons. You don't have enough pointed at you supporting second handers now
The price of products will go up
Make your own
Companies cutting pay
Why in hell don't they raise their rate
Oh wait they do so if your foolish enough to continue working for them when they cut your pay well PT Barnum said it best

What ever happened to fuel surcharge ? Wasn't that what the last strike was for? So you monkey's don't have to worry about the price of fuel going up.
And no I'm not going to park my truck because the cost of my band-aids went up 3 cents a box. That's what you need to write to your MP or congressman about.
Fuel prices are set by the market and when there's trouble in the world combined with growing economies you get higher prices. Parking your truck isn't going to change that unless you park it for a year which might be a even better idea anyway.
