I suppose they might have to build a building, and buy equipment, and hire chemists to make the pill, so patients don't have to ingest the weed smoke....there is that old physician promise "to do no harm", which clearly smoking weed does.

I, for one, applaud the pharma companies for making safe and easy to swallow aspirin, tylenol, synthroid, claritin, hypertension meds, Plavix, Nexium, and all the hundreds of other pain relieving and disease prevention drugs that they make. Plus there is Viagra and Cialis!!!
Big pharma are not the bad guys here.

If you have a 401k plan, you likely own a share of big pharma, and it is a sector of the economy that regularly makes money.....when did that become a bad thing? Why do they make money....because they find cures and treatments for diseases that will kill you....why don't you go out and do that??? What have you done for society lately??? Smoked some weed??

My 401k, like many others is invested in big pharma, big oil, and all the other Fortune 500 companies....so when they do well, I am happy because my 401k does well.

When did nature ever give big pharma a gift horse? They have to discover what nature has for medicines and then test them to see if they actually work and then manufacture them.

For the record - no I don't smoke weed, nor abuse any drugs; but I also do not live in the dark ages of science and medicine. The most ridiculous aspect of your post - pharmaceutical actually care about anything other then profit. Pharmaceutical companies do not care whether Chantix (TM) enables you to quit smoking, or causes you to blow your head off. When was the last time a vaccine erraticated a major disease? The 1970's, for smallpox? There is no money in a one time cure - only a life time of drug use to keep the disease at bay.

I do have a simple perspective on life....and it is that most people are good and do good things. Just like most people on this site are hard working people and do the right thing most of the time.
I have worked for companies that make a profit and also care about people. I can spot phonies, creeps, and bullies. And I also believe you can't fix stupid.

I feel sorry for folks that have a paranoria about life and blindly go about blaming big pharma and big oil, etc. I would agree their execs are paid too much, but I think the pro athletes get more than their share also, but people want to go to their games so they get the big bucks....so it goes.

I also do not find that making a profit and caring for people have to be mutually exclusive. They are not.

I am not a greedy person, so no Bernie Madoff bs for me.

Perhaps since I am finacially secure, and I only work for people that I respect, I come across as gullible.....that would not be me.

I choose what I do, when I do it, and how I do it, and I choose to be happy.

I don't need weed or alchohol to be happy...but I do enjoy a frosty mug of Blue Moon after a 40 mile bicycle ride.

Nope, now that drugs under patent like Plavix was costing consumers $240 a script. Now that the patent is expired you can get the generic for $4. As long as them practices go on I can't see a good side.

Yes, THC is on the DOT disqualifying list. From memory I think it's 21 CFR 1308.11.
