"the fuel tanks are right up against the quarter fenders and there's no room to slide the 5th wheel and very little swing clearance for a reefer unit":biggrin_2555: How dare they COPY 99% of the fleet trucks in AMERICA.

I forgot to add I have a 244" WB truck and I have a good 30" of space between my tanks and front drive axle.

Yes it is. And behind my fuel tanks I have a fuel product pump on one side and a 45 gal hydraulic tank on the other.

Lot of 216,220,224,230,232,234," wheelbase tractors here in the USA that pull reefers with up to 70" CONDO bunks , not everyone has the 280 to 300" wheelbase.

Still a few nice older LONG WHEELBASE tractors in Ontario

A KW with a setback axle gives an additioinal 16" behind the cab. The one I sold your Dad was a 215" when i bought it, before I ever used it we added 24 inches to it and made it 239. The reason why I never went to 244 is because I would have had to add another cross member and steady bearing. The cost to extend was $2,000. That tractor was sitting in KW showroom in Saskatoon and was specked out for pulling super "B" but I pulled Super Loads with it . :yes2557:

I've always been told that for Ontario it has to be 244 only if its a 53ft trailer. If it is a 48ft or short longer then 244 is fine. We run 260wb in and all over Ontario and Quebec with zero issues with authorities..... about length. :biggrin_25522:

Did you read my post at all? If your truck is older than 2005 you can be legally be longer than 244". So if you are driving around in a 2002 Pete with a 300", you are legal. If you bought a brand new 2011 Pete 300" spread, you are illegal!

In general, I believe the 244" restriction come from trucks being too long to navigate through city streets without taking 3 lanes to make a right hand turn.

Heavyd, so your understanding is that if I have a '98 379 with a 300" wb and pull a 53' trailer that I'm legal in Ontario, but if I buy a truck built after '05 then it's illegal? Why would it matter what year the truck was built?
