At a savings of $5,000 over most diesel APUs, I'd say a little trouble is worth it. Propane is available at many truck stops across America now because they cater to the RV crowd. Just fill your tank while you're fueling.

There is little doubt now that MAN is contributing to global warning, and as you will see, CO2 is a "greenhouse gas". In fact, it is the primary greenhouse gas, followed by Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), and Fluorinated Gases. Here is a direct quote from the US EPA site:

"Carbon dioxide emissions: Volcanoes also emit carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, which has a warming effect. For about two-thirds of the last 400 million years, geologic evidence suggests CO2 levels and temperatures were considerably higher than present. One theory is that volcanic eruptions from rapid sea floor spreading elevated CO2 concentrations, enhancing the greenhouse effect and raising temperatures. However, the evidence for this theory is not conclusive and there are alternative explanations for historic CO2 levels (NRC 2005). While volcanoes may have raised pre-historic CO2 levels and temperatures, according to the USGS Volcano Hazards Program, human activities now emit 150 times as much CO2 as volcanoes (whose emissions are relatively modest compared to some earlier times)."

And, yes, our planet has a history of cooling and warming that goes back ions in time. The problem is that MAN's activities have accelerated warming that would normally take millions of years to take place by pumping gases into the environment at an alarming rate. We have also stripped millions of square miles of forrests from the planet that are the very thing that absorbes and converts this gas. Look, I am not a tree-hugger, but I like to look at things as they ARE rather than what I want them to be. Facts are facts - like it or not.

By the way, our government recently put up $10m to do a study on what the effects might be in the NEAR future, and what the impact might be on each and every one of us. But you won't find the facts on this study published anywhere, because the Bush administration has sequestered them and forbid them to be posted in any public forem. Makes you wonder - doesn't it?

I believe it was "Frontline" aired early last week. They did interviews with the former head of the EPA and several others who were involved in the study. Pretty ugly if you ask me.

IdleAire Secures Financing For 35-State, 210-Location Network
On January 4, 2006, IdleAire Technologies Corporation of Knoxville, Tennessee, announced the sale of $320 million of discount notes and warrants that will fund the company’s next major growth phase over the next 15 months. Proceeds will allow for the installation of approximately 13,200 parking spaces in about 210 locations in up to 35 States. The company plans to add its idling reduction technology in a “network” of approximately 160 travel centers (truck stops) and 50 truck fleet terminals strategically selected for their size, convenience along key freight corridors, quality of driver amenities, and average daily/monthly number of idling trucks. Construction will begin immediately at key sites with IdleAire’s nationwide travel center partners – TravelCenters of America, Petro Stopping Centers, and Pilot Travel Centers – as well as sites owned by smaller chains and independently owned travel centers.
According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the IdleAire expansion would create 2,000 full- and part-time jobs, mostly at IdleAire installations across the country. Some new employees would also be hired at the company’s corporate offices in West Knoxville, Tennessee. While I was going thru Illinois a couple weeks ago, I stopped at the Mt Vernon TA (about 9:30PM) planning to be there only long enough to get some dinner and take a shower. There were only about 15 open parking spaces available and ALL of them were IdleAir. HOWEVER: every open space had a large orange safety cone in it. I asked the IdleAir guy, he said they were ALL reserved (for IdleAir customers). I called TA Corporate the next day and the regional representative for IdleAir called me the day after that. He ASSURED me that according to IdleAir's contract with TA, IdleAir cannot
    1. restrict idling
    2. "reserve" parking for customers only
    3. ask you to leave for a "paying" customer
HOWEVER: Every IdleAir I see (particularly at night) all the open spaces are "blocked", either by orange cones or those plastic yellow "jersey baracades". How many drivers will pass by an open space because by all appearances, those are "reserved".
I watched drivers pass by several open parking spaces at the Earle AR TA, because they were "reserved".
As it happens, I purchased AI last night because the AC in my truck is out for the second time (in three weeks), and I wasn't going to spend another night sleeping in a hot truck.

So while they CLAIM that their "contract" with TA forbids them to "reserve" or deny access, or forbid idling; their practices say different. I am soon going to start taking pictures of those "barriers" to parking and offer them to TA as proof that their contract is being violated.

All you had to do is have them read there own rules of idleair that specifically states that, you can use the TRUCK STOP parking in idleair zone when you #### well please and you can idle there but they encourage you not to. The parking is discouragement to others from idling by the placement of quiet zone signs. The idleair parking is not owned by idleair and there agreement to the franchise is to allow any truck parking at any time. If you idle in these places you should check STATE laws on idling because, that could prohibit from idling at all. I read all this proof the other night in a truckers mag.
