Looking for anyone's experience with BTC (Builders Transportation Company) out of Memphis. Looks like a Flatbed company that will hire recent grads at 35cpm with hometime most weekends.

Also forgot to mention he was a brand new driver too. He has had good home time. Just about every weekend with the exception of one since he started on his own.

through the truckers grapevine i have heard that at one time this was a good place to work for.

that may have changed due to the current economic conditions.

I worked for BTC for eight months. I stayed busy even during the winter because I would deliver the East coast.

I try and give a carrier a year before I decide to stay.

I was number one on fuel mileage two or three times. There were only 8 drivers that generated more revenue than me.

I quit them because I will not tolerate being lied to.

That first in first out is "Bull".

I caught them in three lies and that was enough.

When I was there the office personnel were all MS Carrier personnel that lost thier jobs when Swift bought out MS. There was the big carrier mentality. Too bad.

Things might have changed. I prefer the small carrier.

I've been with them 6 months now and I like it. Like Roy, I ran all winter. It's rare for me to have a week under 2k miles. I usually get about 2600 a week. Never had a problem with my dispatcher. In fact, we rarely talk. I just run and he lets me do my thing. Some people do but I don't think its the norm. Never been asked to run illegally. Never had issues getting my truck fixed. The trucks aren't fancy but they get the job done. They're rolling the fleet over to Macs right now and those are pretty nice. They have a quarterly bonus and just added a weekly bonus.

The only real issue I've had with them is getting home on wkends. They advertised every week when I started and I saw it once a month. However, they addressed the issue recently and are making improvements. I've been home every wkend for the last month and a half. Every company has some bs to deal with, that's every job. Comparing my experience to the stories I read on here about other companies tho, I'd say they're an above average training company. You could do worse. A lot worse. I checked my pay stub when I was home this wkend and based on first quarter earnings, I'm on track to gross 40k this year in an industry with projected first year pay of 25k if you're lucky. I'm happy.

I don't think so but I can't say for sure what motors they're running. I'll get back to you on that when I run into another driver with a bulldog. I've heard they pull the hills better though

    railtruckdriver853 Thanks this.

I have worked for BTC since January, and will try to answer any questions anybody has.

I have a Mack, and it pulls WAY better than the Freightshakers. The bulldog has a Mack MP8 engine 410Hp, 2000 lb/ft Tq # 1200 RPM. It has the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) system which is a pain, but it also gets #### near 8MPG flatland, so....BONUS!

In all that time, I have not missed a single weekend at home unless I asked to run. I have had a few issues with organization and load planners/planning my loads. However, some of that is my fault. I am still learning. ;)

Overall, coming out of school, on track to make 35k this year my first year...driving a BRAND NEW Mack truck, and having had check ranging from $1200/wk to $1.40/wk (like i said....oops load planning, lol) I can't complain. In fact, I would give BTC a higher than expected grade and would refer anybody here to give pulling a skateboard a try.

Flatbedding is not for everybody though. I will try to answer any questions when they come up.
