    Hey folks,

I am looking at a 98 freightliner fl-120 to purchase. It is online and in another state and I only have pictures to go off of. It looks in decent shape with at eaton 10 and a detroit series 60. It was a repo and I have seen the repo report and it list the trucks condition at a 3 on a 1-5 scale. It says it was driven 150 miles to get it to the yard with no major problems. The DOT tags have been out since 12/10 the mileage is 905k with no maintenance records. Its listed at 5k, I guess my question is does that sound close to realistic?

For that year and make Yes that is realistic price, the problem you are going to have is leasing that old of a truck on with many companies, and with that mileage it is safe to say that in the near future the 60 series is going to most likely cost you another 25k

    Wargames Thanks this.

wow thanks doc.....as far as the 25 k are you talking about like an inframe would be in the near future?? It will be my first truck and I was just thinking of getting into it slow...maybe just intrastate in texas. I have the cash in hand and I was thinking of offering more like 3500 to 4k...is the 60 a decent motor?operating under my own authority that is...

Buying a truck is a huge decision and buying a used truck with high Mileage is risky to say the least, having a Mechanic check it out before you buy it is usually the best option. Some companies do excellent maintenance and from the yr model that truck could have seen several owner operators on it already. The Repo company is selling it at the owed value to recover the banks money on it, otherwise it would be off to auction, but at auction the truck of that age would not bring the money to cover the loan amount. Just saying

And anybody that gets their equipment repoed, cuz they didn't pay their bills, probably DIDN'T take care/maintain it either. If they are willing, get an oil analysis done b4 you buy.

there is also no telling how long the fuel has been sitting in those tanks as well. a repo is a gamble. i'd rather buy something form a more reputable place, person, dealer than a repo yard.

    good luck

It's a gamble, as stated above.

That one will have the pre-ACERT 12.7 liter 60 Series Detroit with... I believe they had the DDECIV system by them. I love those motors. Easy to work on, efficient. Not the powerhouse that the Cummins or Cat motors from those years are (I mean, we're talking about a 12.7 liter motor as opposed to a 14.6 liter motor), but they get the job done.
