We are getting ready to put a truck on the road. The truck will be driven by dad and 2 sons. Have used various fuel cards while working for other companies but do not know the ins and outs of fuel card programs and discounts. We will be running the Midwest and Southeast primarily.
What should we consider? Flying J card? ComData/MasterCard? A reguluar MasterCard? What else?
TIA

TCH or FlyingJ's card is easy for a one truck operation to set up and use. Dunno about Comcard.
I wouldn't use a regular credit card as you will never get the cash discount like with TCH or Comcard. -
How much is the cash discount, usually? Is it a percentage of the price or is it so many cents per gallon for extended periods of time?
-
I believe the J discount is 5 or 6 cents all the time. But you must use CASH or cash equivalent ie their TCH card. A debit card is not cash to them. -
We use a company visa card. As of last friday Flying J no longer accepts visa so I wouldn't go that way. We just lost the largest chain of fuel stops in the country. There is places out west where ALL you find is a J so I don't know yet what we are going to do
-
OOIDA also has their own fuel card:

Try OOIDA's Card and Flying J's.
Commdata has hit us with some $3.00 per trans action fees. -
the outfit im leased to uses t-check....same thing as a tch basicly...i havent noticed any funky billing procedures yet
wait i was wrong....they charge us $0.90 every time we use the card -
We use TCH and honestly I'm not happy with thier fee's either.
Also TCH really limits where you can fuel too.
EFS now allows you to fuel everywhere, J, Petro, Pilot and T/A . -
you can still fuel at lot of place with tch just not at ta pilot or petro i used it for several years had no problems
