What is the dam reason for shutting off water flow to the heater---using the spigot valves?

It's not summer yet and this is getting to be dam annoying.

    Turn them counterclockwise to open.

Unless their metric valves, then their backwards.:biggrin_2559:

Valve just keeps the hot water out of the heater core. I think it was more effective to do back in the day when you didn't have AC.

The reason oem's put shut offs on the heater lines is if you ever blow a heater core or rub a line you can simply turn the valves off to get you home.
It also helps a/c output a little in the summer but not really nessary.

I leave mine open but I go north all year and with them closed my A/C can be too cold esp at night...it wont hurt anything til you have a heater hose leak.
