Yes, there are a couple truckstops with showers available. The one I use is about 3 miles off my path so it's not too bad. The terminal has a shower too. Every once in a while I miss getting a shower for 1 night but that's it. I am sleeping in the truck except for my reset.

Food is easy. There's pleanty of places that make breakfast tacos/burritos and there are some family style resteraunts that you can get to with parking maybe a block away or so. There's some Wally Marts along the paths too so you can always run into one of them and stock up. Down in Aransas Pass, where we off load, there are pleanty of places that you can get a truck into to grab a meal. Fast food is available and as I said, some better resteraunts too.

There is little to no chance that an unexperienced driver get one of these jobs.

It's not because of the trucking companies themselves, it's either the insurance company that mandates the amount of experience the driver must have in order for the trucking company to receive lower rates for their insurance. Or, as is the case for Martin, it's the oil company that we're hauling the crude oil for.

We pull for Shell. Shell requires 3 years experience for the crude oil drivers but Martin, as a hiring policy, only requres 1 year of experience. So, someone could get on with Martin and haul sulphur, LPG, or other stuff. But for crude - it's 3 years exp.

To anyone who is reading this, get your HAZMAT. Trust me on this one. Just recently passed the test for mine. The test is way easier than you expect. Just read through the section of the book, you don't even really have to memorize stuff about the classes of materials. I would be terribly surprised if you couldn't pass the test by your 2nd time through it. I feel like I've wasted the last few years by not getting mine sooner. Granted, if you're inexperienced you may or may not be able to get a job requiring it, but, still, get it.

    Seriously.

I agree, I watched a hazmat 20-30 minute video on Hazardous Materials: General Awareness and Familiarization, that was a gov made video. Read my state book and took these online tests. >> http://www.cristcdl.com/otc Most of those questions are the same or alike on the tests.

This was all in one morning. That afternoon, I took the hazmat and double/triples. Passed both and went an got finger printed. Waiting for my new licenses in the mail :biggrin_25525:

Wish I would have done it a long time ago.......
