i will get right to the point, i have a felony for theft that is only about 2 1/2 years old and im still on probation till nov of this year, because i have all that on my record i was told no trucking company would hire me. im in truck driving school so i applaied for about 20 jobs and about ten contacted me. the one that i might take is team driving for crst. my question is : why was it so easy to find a job with the felony, is its something im missing? i read these stories on here about newbies getting almost thru with orientation and then told to go home. the recruter has assured me everything is on the level but im still concerned. is the driving shortage that bad?im only planing to drive for a year with them so i can get a local job here at home in indiana.any suggestions on any good companies that will hire with a felony? so far ive been pre hired by werner, swift, prime, and crst.

It could be why you was in trouble wasn't so severe. Maybe it was something minor in their eyes. Not sure and I guess none of my business as to what trouble you was in, but it very well could be that you have a job and there is no problem.
Which let me add my fiance applied there about 4 years ago and had a DUI charge on his record that was like 5 years old and told him that he could never drive a truck for CRST so don't even worry about applying, so take his case to your case and see the differnece 4 years later. All legal issue's had been resolved. Actually I believe the case was 5 years old if I remember right.
Good luck and keep a straight life for your 2nd chance, which I totally believe in -
Allot depends on if they go to canada or not. that is the issue with felony or DUI they will not allow you in canada with either one as they are the same to them. Now as far as a job glad you got one and hope it works out but they are diluteing the industry real bad right now with the older drivers retireing or just getting out so the newer drivers are entering a market that was for years dominated by experianced seasoned vetrans and is now dominated by younger more inexperianced drivers so the accident rates go up and skill level goes down. It also reduces the number of drivers that are of 50 out there and they are the ones who have ben there and done that and remember what it was like in the hay day of trucking when a driver was King of the ROAD

Well seeing the group that you got prehires from its understandable that they would take you. Throw in JB Hunt and take out Prime and you would have a pretty good list of the bottom of the big companies.
Prime is the only one on that list I would possibly consider going with. I would work at Wendy's before working for Swift, Werner, JB Hunt or CRST. -
Like I've said in other posts, it's interesting anyone with a theft conviction can get a job hauling freight across the country.
If I get busted stealing a bar of candy and it sticks, I have a record that will keep me out of a good job, such as a job working at a bank. A bank has all sorts of security checks in place to prevent employee theft, so you'd think I wouldn't chance stealing from the house if I, the stealer of candy bars, were lucky enough to get a job there, which I wouldn't be.
But after being rejected by the bank because of my supposedly being a risk for thievin', I could get a truck driving job, a job where I would be trusted to haul tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of dollars in freight to and fro often times with no lock through isolated places like Nevada in the middle of the night. -
Some of you still buy that old line that there is a "driver shortage" in trucking. Since when? When you go home next, pay a visit to your local shopping malls and tell me how many bare shelves you see. Critical driver shortages mean shortages of goodies on store shelves. I want you to go the malls, count how many bare shelves you see, and then report back.
The driver shortage is nothing but a lie, gentlemen. -
They should have said no decent company would hire you. When you go to work for one of these companies you listed you will see why it was so easy. -
Be careful, especially with CRST. They were pretty strict when I worked for them. I am surprised they would call you. Be careful, they might get you there and decide not to hire you. You are not fully hired until you complete all training, including going with the trainer. Make sure you ask questions and try to get in writing they know about the felony. CYA
