Reefer vs Dry Van? Hope to start with May Trucking soon and interested in 48 states vs dry van. What are the pros and cons of driving a refrigerated van?

I am unsure of the technical term used, but May pays on miles from zip code to zip code.

Dispatched miles are your total miles loaded and empty. You get paid the same wage for empty as you do loaded.

May does pay layover if you are without a dispatched load for atleast 24 hours and you keep getting layover for every 24 hours after. Detention pay starts at 4 hours past your scheduled pickup/delivery time. You have to be on time and you only get paid for full hour increments past 4 hours. Unfortunately you do not get paid for canceled pre-plans. You do get paid for any extra drops/picks. Also, you will get paid if you have to help unload. I have only had to touch nursery loads though.

I love the refer side. Longer trips are great. I love being planned for 5 or more days. You do have to live load and live unload a lot more than dry side. Plus May just got atleast 150 new refer trailers. I like having new stuff :)

I Wish I could give you a solid answer. Best thing is to go to the site (forum rules prohibit posting links, google search may trucking) and call the Brooks office.

may trucking company does pay practical miles. My variance is never more then 2 % difference - . And in many cases it is.1% + .. the routing system and what they bill their costumers at can variy as they work independant of one another so. If there is ever a diference above 2 % have your dm correct the routing to reflect yor correct path.. side note: they pay you based on the same milage they use to calculate rates for customers .

So if there ever is a difference advice them because their not attempting to take advantage of you and they are loosing revenue as well (which hurts us all)
