like the others have said, if you're going into trucking 'living' in Indiana will really help. If you want to visit family in Vermont just ask for new england loads as much as you can and if you get close, take a day or two off up there, but keep your domicile in Indiana. Once you start looking at Hiring Maps you'll see why. I used to think that living in Minnesota was a good place, but there are lots of companies who will hire from Iowa, but not Minnesota, even though my hometown is 10 miles from the border.

Well, what we're hoping to do is eliminate rent by moving in with my parents, being on the road for 7 or 8 weeks at a time and being home for a week, and rinsing and repeating...so that'd be great to knock off that excess, plus we have 2 dogs that they're willing to take care of and we don't want to get rid of them...
both my husband and I got our CDL permits today! WOO!

Being home for a week! Wow, where, sign me up! I haven't heard of a company that lets their trucks sit for that long! 4days max. Not trying to be negative but don't get your hopes up on that one. As a husband/wife team go with the flow. If you have a load going that way then take a day. You are going to find it extremely hard getting to Vermont on demand as a company driver. Now if you are owner ops you can go out of route and just pay out the butt for fuel. Whatever your decision I would highly recommend you drive for at lease three months before getting rid of your house. Your new lifestyle is going to be quite shocking, especially as team drivers. You are going to be expected to do a 1000miles a day. This is sometimes tough to get used to. It takes a bit to learn how to sleep in a moving truck too. Kind of like a rollercoaster in the dark. After three months once you start getting used to it, sell that house, run those 7000mile weeks and you are going to make a lot of money! You gotta hustle though!

That's sort of what Hubby and I are doing - however our daughter/SIL are moving in to take care of the house (basically its theirs now) and we will have a 'room' there... the co. we are going with though will do 1 day off for each 7 day run - up to 3-4 days. We can't 'bank' more than that. We're planning on where ever we are for those 3-4 days - to go sight seeing (after laundry etc.). However we also plan to move into that room when we are done driving. No matter how long that will be - hopefully a good 10-15 years or more, but time will tell on that one :biggrin_25525:

Heck; maverick used to let you stay at home; I think up to a month. I don't remember the exact time frame, but somewhere close. They also had casual drivers. You let them know when you want to go out again.

Half of it was covered through Indiana WorkOne and Sage covered the other half through a grant through Ivy Tech. My hubby was working a min. wage job and I was under there income requirement by a matter of a few cents, I don't know if NC has a WorkOne but it's something to look into!
We just randomly received a phone call one day about a month after looking into Sage saying they had grants!

I wouldn't go to another school besides Sage. They are amazing, and our trainers at US Xpress were impressed with our knowledge, they said no other school has ever prepped students to well!

If you do have to take out a loan to go to Sage, H.O Wolding has a really good reimbursement program, the highest I know of......But when we applied there they wouldn't hire me because I was female and they didn't have female trainers....which is discrimination....but that's a different story.

My hubby and I LOVE US Xpress.
The money is AWESOME! we usually take home 1400-2000 a week! AND they have a 5000.00 sign on bonus for HazMat teams :)

    Best of Luck countrymom

Did they mention anything other than my amazing cheesecakes? My hubby and I still text/call Rick, Donnie and Allen all the time.

Yes actually. Allen said you back better than your husband lol. I just graduated 2 weeks ago and as I type this I'm in Des Moines getting ready to start with TMC.

That school is great. I really learned a lot from them.
