Does anyone have any real forecast data concerning trucking salaries in the next 5-10 years? The reason I ask is that everything I read is stating a major trucker shortage in the near future. Even though we are in a recession and the trucking industry has shut down about 150,000 trucks, there is a major shortage forecast. Does anyone out there remember the times when companies had recruiting departments and sign on bonuses etc? I think that in the next 5 years, there will be a hiring boom, but will that translate into more per mile, or just more miles available?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I'm gonna tell you something and that I think the future looks good if you can find the right situation. I recently went to work for a small fleet owner of 5 trucks hauling produce, orange juice and some dry freight. This guy was looking for experienced drivers that have been there and done that and who he didn't have to check on morning and night, and he is willing to pay for that luxury. I'm not bragging, but I put an ad on Craigslist, he found me, and a match was made in heaven. As an example, I loaded produce on Monday for Hunts Point, delivered Wensday, ran up to Rochester NY and reloaded for Tampa for Saturday delivery. Total gross to me is $1800. I couldn't be happier. I'm seeing the rates on all of these loads, and I'm here to tell you that the rates aren't as bad as what everybody thinks if you are willing to do your homework. I've even hauled a few produce loads for one of the so called cheapest brokers in the industry and got $3 a mile. Maybe I'm just on a roll and the bottom will fall out, but for the last 3 monthes things have been looking pretty good. I think things will improve soon for everybody if these scum sucking bottom feeders ever shake loose more cash to the drivers.

Well i'll probably catch a lot of flack over this, but i'll say it anyway. They told us some years ago the same story. I personally do not buy it. Trucking is not concidered big business,it is medium sized business. Big business, big shippers have huge power in this country. Do you really think they are going to stand by and let CSA2010 create a 150,000 driver shortage and watch the freight rates they pay trucking co's go through the roof. Notice how you don't hear much of that talk lately. Believe this Big Business is collaborating with their Congressman & Senators to get CSA2010 watered down. Watch and see! There will be some rate increases, wage increases and hiring, but nothing that extreme. In 1973 i made $30,000.00 as a driver plus Union benefits if wages had kept pace with that where would we be today. Deregulation was and is all about keeping freight rates low and in turn wages low.

They have been talking about a driver shortage during the entire 19 years I've been with my current company, and I just wish freight rates and driver's wages had increased at the same rate as the menu prices in truckstops! They have NOT. And if some kind of open border agreement really happens with Mexico, then rates will plummet.

I honestly believe the best days of trucking ended in the 20th century !!!!

I see a race to the bottom, and the drivers are NOT winning !!!!

    But, there's always hope...............

Globalism aka "The New World Order" is trying to "outsource" U.S. Trucking by letting in thousands of trucks from Mexico.

The American Empire, totally in the control of the globalists, will eventually allow this to happen, especially as they destroy the fiat Federal Reserve Note to replace it with the American Union fiat money the "Amero".

This, my friend, is going to happen and nothing short of an American Revolution will stop it.

But I wouldn't hold my breath for that to ever happen. Most Americans today are clueless. They can't even tell you ONE of the Articles of the Bill of Rights.

The U.N. Security council now declares war for the United States and NOT the United States Congress.

The U.N. basically makes Congress obsolete.
