I've had an OPS since 10/'09 went 160K miles with good samples on Rotella syn but due to fast idling oil consumption in Canada winters made me change to dinosaur oil til it warmed up but my #s were still really good.
The new OPS units are 6 inches or less in diameter and easily fit on a frame rail, they have also gone to spin on filters. Mine was about $630 with 2 filters and 2 sample kits shipped and I paid Cat $300 to put it on b/c I was still under warranty for an inframe...didn't want any possible issues, if I bought one for another truck id install it myself.
Pretty clean and fast filter change.

Looks like im on the right track. Talked to Pitts Power this morning and asked about the spinnerII. Sounds like its the way to go. Wasnt real excited about having a 3ft tube hanging off the back of my sleeper. Isnt room enough back there with the muffler, apu condenser and all the other crap anyways lol.
How often are you guys having to clean your spinner2? Every oil change or what? -

Remember, that FS wants to sell filters. Put your unit on and gradually increase the change interval on the filters and sample to see how far you can take the filters before changing. The canister will get hot if the oil is flowing thru and usually the filter is doing just fine cleaning up. Only if it gets plugged will cleaning be affected.Last edited: May 6, 2011

What would really impress me, is someone who uses a smaller bypass like FS2500, Amsoil bypass, OPS, etc that only needs a quart or two of makeup oil with each filter change, actually get the oil change intervals you have.Last edited: May 6, 2011

Not degrading the GFC, it is a good filter. Just putting a little perspective into the mix because GCF won't say these things in the advertising.

Thanks Cowpie! I'm not trying to bash any of the other modes out there, this one just seemed to make the most sense for me. And, as you and others have stated, any system is better than none at all.

I have a bypass filter waiting to be installed (FS 2500)... but I've been waiting for about 5 years!
Guess I better get busy...Last edited: May 7, 2011

With manufacturers pushing service intervals further out (Detroit Diesel is up to 50,000 miles as I posted in another thread) I would be interested to see the results of bypass filters, spinners et al on these new engines.

I just (week ago) installed a spinner II 960 on my C-15 ACERT equipted '07 T2000.
Easy and straight forward intall. Wish I had opted for the 996 as it built for rough service. Bought mine from PPI. Used Rotella 6 and it is still clean looking after 4k+ miles. There are several out 1/2 ORB taps on the ls of engine. Drain is into oil pan at drain plug. I replaced drain plug with #16 ORB to #14 to #14 hose to 1/2 (#8) drain at spinner. I wanted a large resivor type hose for drainage to oil pan. Used #6 air fittings.
