If you have a CDL maverick would hire you, buy you would have to learn load securement and go out with a trainer.

Thanks No Tarps. Been trying to find out what to do. No one wants to hire out of Florida (thats good) cant get money for school and good company training cant get approved for credit either. So I talk to local Budweiser they said as long as I have my permit, pee test phyc. They would hire me train me after I stay for one month then in like another month or two go with me and use there truck and get my class A. Cant beat that inless I can get a WIA grant for school. Then after at Budweiser yr or so then can try go OTR when i move up to my property in Missouri. Another question is it harder to not wreck, tickets etc.. local delivery or OTR delivery?

Anything can happen at anytime, but making city deliveries you are more likely to have problems than the open road. Are you going to be hauling bulk loads or on a route? If you are on a route you are going to be humping. Packing all the cases in by hand. Part time driver; full time stocker.

Route work does not provide practice at backing to loading docks, etc. It is a way to get your CDL with their equipment. When I worked for a beer distributor, a young guy started that way. Then, he practiced pre-trip inspection and took his CDL test at the local truck driving school with a beer delivery trailer. Eventually, he quit the beer distributor and hired on with Gordon's Foods. He may be pulling doubles for them by now.

You can do it easily. You'll most likely be put with a trainer/finisher for a few weeks with any company you decide to go with. To insure that you can handle the job.

Additionally, you can hire on with a small company that mearly gives you a road test and places you in a truck. Not as good as a larger company to start. But it is a place to start.

  10. From what I have seen at Roehl, if you are an experienced driver that they can verify, you go out with a mentor for like 5 days so they can teach you the Roehl way. They go over the qualcom and stuff like that and all the Roehl stuff. If you have anything less than 6 months experience, you will have to go thru the new driver training just like I did. I met a guy the other day that drove for TMC for 25 weeks and had to go thru the entire training. So the trick is to at least stay for 6 months where you start.
