Hi all, im going to be turning 21 and i've been doing a ridiculous amount of research on companies to start out with. My paps drove for Prime Inc. in 2005 so I already know a great deal about them and there traits, atleast a lot more then I know about the other companies im looking into. But I want to start out company and play it safe and gain exp being safe and profitable before I do a lease or anything. I've been looking a lot into Millis and for one.. they are only 3 hrs from where I live so thats a plus to start with. I have read mostly all good reviews about millis.. well actually nothing but good.. but I also have not read anything bad really about driving a company truck with Prime inc. If some drivers could give some advice on who would most likely be the best to roll with when I hit age 21 to get my cdl and as well I would probably make more money with driving company I would very much appreciate it. Im young and am looking forward to making a real good career out of this while staying fit and healthy as I think that is real important to do if your out there on the road. Im looking to run real hard and stay out longer then normal also because I don't really have a important reason to have some hometime, would rather stack up on the cash. I know Prime Inc. runs HARD! Witnessed that with my paps. Hope some drivers can give me some tips and advice. Thanks so much. So anxious to get started.

If you're just starting I think I'd keep away from a company that seems to be primarily in the business of leasing trucks.

Most of the Prime trucks I see recently are doing 55-58 mph. Don't know if that includes company drivers, or only lease operators?

Wait, I recommend you go to Prime, we need more of them out there. They're one of the few trucks I have the speed to pass.

Right on crete, thanks! You are very true about there trucks rollin at that speed, they got to pretty much to make a decent check while leasing. I was thinking the same thing.. Would probably be best to go with a company where most of there fleet are company drivers, all really getting equal loads and treated equally while I could see making a lot bigger check as well then driving company for prime. Please everyone post your knowledge and advice, it really helps a lot. Thanks again crete, have fun and be safe!!

Prime has a rather large company driver division - you can pull reefer, flats or tanker with them now. Never had a problem with Prime on the company side - absolutely no pressure to lease or train, like you'll find at many other carriers. Being a larger carrier, they also have a larger freight base than some of the smaller companies... that showed through during '08 - kept us running better than many others during the downturn.

As far as a paycheck, I averaged over $800 per week take home while on the company side. I always was treated properly on the company side - but you'll find that if you act like a schlub company driver, you'll get treated that way anywhere. Outside of steering team freight to team trucks, the lease and company drivers are dispatched out of the same pool of freight.

Thanks iron and AT, iron I have more respect and a passion to drive for prime then any other company.. Been wanting to drive since I was with my dad there.. I love everything about that company, there terminal, trucks.. You name it. As far as driving company there I know they have a nice fleet of company trucks and there drivers do make good money driving company. "Btw do they still roll with RTC on the company trucks?" But I do strongly think I could make more at millis driving company since there all company and some O/O. I can see myself at prime down the road leasing for sure.. Like I said, I have a passion for that company and have a wealth of knowledge about them believe it or not. Not saying more then you iron of course.. Your driving there. Where ever I choose though I'm going to make it work and keep a positive attitude, this is going to me my career I'm forming so I'm going to roll with the flow and go where the most money is for driving company and get treated well while driving great equipment starting out. I still have some time before I'm 21, so I can sit on my choices a bit. Thanks all.

:banghead: You have ALLOT to learn.

Just because your dad had a good expericance doesnt mean you will. You still need to need to learn to drive. Riding with your dad is ALLOT differant then being out here be yourself. Trust me I know.

My dad worked for Stevens transport and has nothing bad to say about them, but that doesnt mean they are a good company. Which is why i didnt go to work there too.

Leases are not designed to Benifit the driver. Yes some people have completed a lease, but VERY few. Some lease drivers make slightly more then company drivers do, but most do not, most will never own the truck.

If you want to go to prime, go, if you want to lease do it. But do your research first, because I garentee you that when you come back on here talking about how much prime screwed you on the lease, not one person on here will feel bad for you. Its been posted on here 1000's of times how bad these lease purchase programs are.....

You need to be a company driver first and learn how to drive, before even thinking about leaseing a truck, and if you really want to own a truck do it right and go buy one......

Just my .02cents taken it or leave it:biggrin_2558:
